Article source: Ex Interiors designs Mobility, experience, connecting, inspiring, meeting and moving. Ex Interiors has used these themes to create a new, exceptional interior for the ALD Automotive head office including the Mobility Experience Centre in Hoofddorp. By way of an AV carousel of 19 screens, visitors can undergo a 360 degree visual experience.  Image Courtesy © Alexander van Berge With a limited number of spatial interventions Ex Interiors has transformed the existing, standard office building into a dynamic working environment. The entrance has been relocated to the middle of the building volume. Users and visitors now enter directly into the core of the office where the reception, meeting up and experience are the focal point at entrance level. The Mobility Experience Centre designed by Ex Interiors in cooperation with Tinker Imagineers, is located to the left of the entrance. Here ALD portrays its mobility plan to a global public. The eye-catcher is the AV carousel, where a total experience is conveyed through the interaction between images, sound, light and colour, which focuses on the future of mobility.  Image Courtesy © Alexander van Berge Following on from the entrance are the openly designed reception desks with access to the work floor behind it and to the right there’s a coffee corner and the restaurant. There is a welcoming and energetic atmosphere in this meeting area which is enhanced by the expressive colours of the walls, the ceiling and by the furnishings used. A second prominent spatial intervention is the placement of a blue jute-cladded box in which a special perception has been created. This box is situated centrally and slices through the three building layers. A stairwell in the middle of the box facilitates internal encounters and connects the meeting area on the ground floor to the upper two work floors.  Image Courtesy © Alexander van Berge The work floors have been divided up into clear zones. The middle, inside the box, contains the various types of closed meeting rooms. These have a completely transparent wall on one side. On the opposite side, for two-thirds up from the floor, the wall is made of glass. This offers an exciting perspective to the experience outside the box, and vice versa. The middle zone also contains a kitchenette with a high coffee table. This is the work floor’s meeting point. The permanent, individual work stations are situated along the façade. These receive lots of daylight and are laid out in a strict rhythm. At the ends of the work floor there are rooms where one can concentrate. Because the box is staggered here and there on the various floors, a dynamism to the interior image is created within this clear layout.  Image Courtesy © Alexander van Berge The bold colours on the ground floor continue onto the work floor. Warm reds, blues and purples make up the palette on the upper floor. These colours are visible on the walls and are repeated in differing degrees in the customised carpet designed especially for this project. The carpet accentuates the location of the individual work stations and creates the visual relationship with the closed meeting rooms in the box. Because of the expressive colours, stepped colour schemes and the variety of patterns, the carpet is a prominent cornerstone of the interior. The agency has transformed a standard office interior in a standard office building into an inspiring working environment with global stature which corresponds with the ambitions of ALD Automotive.
