Multifunctional complex with apartments in Moscow, Russia by SPEECH

Thursday, April 2nd, 2015

Article source: SPEECH

The bulk of the future building was assigned by the size of the emptied site and the marks of the neighbouring buildings: 135×76 m, with the height of 68 m. The question was not so much about forming an original architectural image, as about development of the complex planning corresponding with world-wide criteria, which pretend to the class “A”, and an original façade solution, harmoniously grouping with “Mirax-Plaza” and at the same time emphasizing the independence of the new object.

Bussum Garden Studio in Netherlands by Serge Schoemaker Architects

Thursday, April 2nd, 2015

Article source: Serge Schoemaker Architects

The Garden Studio in Bussum involves the design and construction of a freestanding shed in a private garden that functions as a study, guest accommodation and storage. The challenge to fit a relatively large structure in a long, narrow garden resulted in an elongated plan. A geometric form entirely clad in shingles, combined with the transparent corner and rotated siting at the rear of the garden lends the studio a distinct presence and identity.

Nike Union Square Flagship Installation in San Francisco, California by FreelandBuck

Thursday, April 2nd, 2015

Article source: FreelandBuck

As part of Nike’s overhaul of their flagship store on Union Square, our two-story lobby installation is a dynamic array of over 600 reclaimed bleachers which cantilever out over the escalator leading into the store. The well-worn bleacher board, a material Nike has used in numerous stores to convey familiarity and use, is organized here as a set of vectors that flow through the lobby. Ideally, the anomalies of the material are enough to disrupt the smoothness of the geometry, while the unstable, precarious array disrupts a purely nostalgia reading of the bleachers yielding a wider range of associations.

This is a dental clinic project in the city center of Porto, Portugal. There are plenty of tile rendered buildings in this area and the design concept of this clinic is inspired by one of the typical tile patterns with windmill shape. Interior walls are finished with this windmill pattern. This pattern is applied to the Illumination and the furniture. Portuguese fabric made of wool called Burel is used as acoustic and adsorptive material on several walls.

Article source: 9 Optiune

The Artist Colony in Baia Mare started from the initial summer colonizations which took place every year from 1896 till 1901. In 1898 these temporary settlements were joined by the individual permanent colonization of many artists who have spent in Baia Mare shorter or longer periods of their artistic biography, thus being decisive in the establishment of a genuine permanent institutional structure known as “Colonia pictorilor”. Nowadays Colonia is represented by multiple exhibition spaces and workshops, a generous space offered to the artists, members of the Association of Plastic Artists Union.

Uralchem Headquarters in Moscow, Russia by Pedra Silva Architects, Luis Pedra Silva and Maria Rita Pais

Thursday, April 2nd, 2015

Article source: Pedra Silva Architects, Luis Pedra Silva and Maria Rita Pais

The brief was to create a space that would enable ideal working conditions for staff while also reflecting the company’s dynamic, relaxed and youthful spirit. The project space occupies an entire floor of Imperia Tower, a skyscraper in Moscow City.

The first challenge arose when initially visiting the site and realizing that some of the tower floors were previously built to be a hotel. This explained the short floor to ceiling height and in existence of raised floors that would be ideal for office use. So we set out to answer the question…”How do we make a space look taller than what is actually is?”

There is now a tower overlooking the countryside in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle, at Gruaud Larose. This is 21 metres tall, has an overhang, and is built in a harmonious style with right angles. It appears enigmatic when seen from afar.
