”The Net”

A bridge is built to connect two points and to remove an obstacle.

The “Bussa” is the bridge connecting two parts of the city of Milan separated by a high speed road, a train line and tall buildings. but is closed do the public and in state of neglect and decay.

But a bridge is a connection, so we thought the our project should emphasize this idea of connection.

We thought to a structural “Net” as the physical and symbolic imagine of the project.

This Net would transport the energy, the light, the shadow, the movement and also the life of the city.

This Net is thought to put the two different areas of the city “On line”.

“The space in the middle, to bypass and stay”

A bridge is a passage space, in an “in the middle space”, a border space.

But we wanted a better bridge.

For this reason we thought to a space where people should pass by but should also slow down, stop and enjoy the time in the city in an agreeable environment.

“The project”

The “Net” becomes a real structure in our project, a long fluid and articulated structure connecting two points.

This structure develops itself at different levels between an height of 3 and 10 meters reaching the ground in particular points and defining and wrapping the space below.

This space is conceived as a park with green areas, vegetable gardens, sport and leisure structures ordered on a linear path.
Our Net is simply leaned on the existing bridge recovered as it was and just painted.

The net is supporting a variety of vegetation on its top and along the parts reaching the ground and this vegetation gives shadow where is needed.

“The structure”

The physical structure is a wood self standing, carrying the vegetation, solar panels and can be partially close to create repair and shadow.

It’s conceived as an “in the making” structure where the growing green, the changing of the covered areas will create a “flexible” environment.

“The Ecosystem”

The Net hosts several photovoltaic panels producing the necessary energy for the illumination and the other functions of the system.

A part for few areas such as the bicycle path and the service road that are paved with stones the whole are is green.
