With a many site constraints in renovating apartment with reinforced concrete structure, I’ve worked for this project to take in the most advantage that is the relationship to the outside into the design. The lines of sight and movement run directly through hall, living room, terrace to outside from the entrance. The both walls guide those lines as well as the direct evening sunlight on the floor, and contain the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen practically set. From living room as a centre, the hall to the entrance, the stairs to upper floor, and dining room with dead-angle from entrance are spread, and even widely extended to the terrace outside. On above floor, it is one-room space like a loft and is gently separated into atelier and lounge by open stairs. One whole side is filled with cabinet and shelf onto the boundary wall, and other three sides to the outside are free. Therefore it becomes not just a simple and open space and also can brings the outside into the room fully with the huge terrace.

The floor is finished with the dark-red colour mortal with epoxy coating below and with dark-grey colour carpet above in order to create the cosy atmosphere with gravity. The ceiling and wall are partly untouched, and the rest of them and the built-in furniture are painted on white. The race curtains as a filter are installed to be able to feel the air and light through, and can adjust flexibly to the situations and the demands of the changing. These factors like a white surface or a filter can make the relationship to the existing structure clearly, and give the strong impression of the unity of the whole space.
