Shopping centre Part-Dieu in Lyon, France by MVRDV

Sunday, March 6th, 2016

Article source: MVRDV

Today Gérard Collomb, the Mayor of Lyon, officially announced MVRDV’s transformation of Lyon’s large Part-Dieu shopping centre, the centre piece in a major renovation which includes the surrounding district. The scheme looks to redefine the area’s public space by creating terraces and gardens that step up into the retail complex. The new complex keeps the original identity of the Part-Dieu shopping centre through the re-use and revitalisation of its iconic yet run-down façade, which will ‘evaporate’ as it reaches the new glazed extensions that open up onto the street.

Lambeth House in London by Architecture for London

Sunday, March 6th, 2016

Article source: Architecture for London

This Victorian house in a conservation area originally had a dark and compact kitchen with unsatisfactory views of the garden. The brief was to create a light, spacious home for a growing family, with a side return extension that provided sufficient width for an island unit and dining table, allowing the kitchen to function as a social space.

The Golden Ratio architectural office is an alternative approach to the concept of communication and cooperation. A broad wooden surface forms a welcoming gate to the inner space of the company. Three construction helmets, as many as the company members, along with the imposing logo made of metal screws, mark the entrance to the working space. “Two quantities are in the golden ratio if …” and journey into the world of Golden Ratio begins.

SEJONG-DAERO HISTORIC CULTURAL SPACE in Seoul, South Korea by Daniel Valle Architects

Sunday, March 6th, 2016

Article source: Daniel Valle Architects

The proposal for the Plaza ambitions to become a new type of public space in Seoul, one capable to absorb in one same place the memories and cultural heritage of the site, the exciting underground world of passages and connections and a creative and technological platform for learning and innovating.

To achieve this endeavor, we propose to keep thirteen standing columns of the former Japanese building as the only objects standing in the plaza. All other urban furniture are substituted by a soft curved rubber surface acting as seating areas for visitors who wish to sit and have a pause. The new surface of the Plaza acts as a platform to empower memories and nothing stands between the columns and citizens.

Memories can be recalled by direct visual connection with the former building’s columns and other cultural heritage around the site such as Deoksugung Palace’s wall. We propose a complementary digital layer of engagement with the site’s hidden meanings; a layer that allows citizens to receive digital information in the form of specifically designed APPs and augmented reality platforms that complement the visual perception of the site. The smart plaza will provide 5G WIFI connection for the better display of these services. The Plaza also wises to be a large mobile phone charge station. Electromagnetic fields embedded in the Plaza’s pavement create areas of wireless recharge for mobile devices.
