Sunday, October 23rd, 2016

Article source: v2com

Viger Square is about to reclaim its past glory thanks to a complete redesign and redevelopment led by the landscape architects at NIPPAYSAGE.

Work will begin on the first phase, affecting the square’s two western blocks – part of Montreal’s 375thanniversary legacy – in the spring of 2017. The two eastern blocks will be the focus of the next phase, completing the revitalization of Montreal’s very first square outside the old town’s fortifications.

Urban Rigger in Copenhagen, Denmark by BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group

Sunday, October 23rd, 2016

Article source: BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group

Recent years have demonstrated a substantial and sustained increase in the number of student applicants throughout Denmark. As the number of students continues to grow, additional student housing will be needed to accommodate them. There are few strategies that allow cities to expand. Yet, Copenhagen’s harbor remains an underutilized and underdeveloped area at the heart of the city. By introducing a building typology optimized for harbor cities we can introduce a housing solution that will keep students at the heart of the city.

Cantilevered closets

The site is located on the soft ground near the lower basin of the big river. The client of this house decided to build one-storied house because the site area is wide enough, but it was necessary to reduce the foundation area because of the construction budget. So I arranged closets in the outer periphery, and attached them by the cantilevering structure.

A Scaffolding System for a Temporary Facility in Barcelona, Spain by peris+toral.arquitectes

Sunday, October 23rd, 2016

Article source: peris+toral.arquitectes

In response to both the temporality of the facility and the context where is located, Peris+Toral stands up for a detachable and reusable construction that minimizes the trace on the territory: a scaffolding system as structure and formal solution of the project.

This temporary facility built a year ago by the Catalan practice Peris+Toral, is part of the provisional urbanization of the Glòries Square in Barcelona. With this project, the studio reasserts a new way of working and enhances its search for new solutions and constructive processes.
