Xrange wraps a new layer of 80- 177cm wide by 7m high living spaces around an existing indigenous stone house to create an “extreme” new house of outrageous living proportion. The newly added programs of pantry, bar, study, library, dog house and bathrooms are new “rooms” averaging about 4m2 in footprint, but with soaring 7m headroom. The new house becomes a sequence of small narrow vertical spaces that interlock like the spaces within an ant colony.
In the Tilburg railway zone, the construction of the LocHal took off this week. Within the contours of the monumental locomotive hall, CIVIC architects in collaboration with Braaksma & Roos Architecten and Inside Outside, designed a large public building. The project houses a public library, workspaces, conference rooms, exposition spaces, an art school, a glass music hall and an elevated foyer overlooking the city. The building adds a contemporary layer to the ancient typology of the library. It functions as a public space where visitors can read and lend books and other media but at the same time are stimulated to collectively share and develop new knowledge.

Newly developed urban areas are losing their connection with nature. “Bamboo House” is a small residential project in a narrow alley called “Hem” in Ho-Chi-Minh City. Minaret house is an amalgamative representation of modern technologies and traditional ideologies. The house is situated in an urban setting in the National Capital Region. The immediate surrounding area has very high density most of which have been developed as replicated housing units. In the midst of this repetitive and dense urban environment, the Minaret house is located adjacent to a large golf course in a plotted development.

Our client Mr. White retired to the countryside near Hanging Rock in Victoria a few years before the project started. His brief was to build a small gallery in the back yard facing the bush, where he could hang paintings and photos and also use as a studio. For security reasons, as well as to maximize hanging space, we were asked to have minimal windows, and for those windows to be framed in a way that intruders could not break in.
