Navarcles Skateplaza in Barcelona, Spain by PMAM + SKATE ARCHITECTS

Wednesday, October 25th, 2017

Article source: PMAM + SKATE ARCHITECTS

A new skate facility for the city of Navarcles is conceived as a plaza. Despite a low budget to begin with, this facility for skateboarding is considered as an opportunity to contribute in the urban development of the city, transforming an old sports area into a new public park. Now being an Olympic sport, the project rather departs from the fact of street skateboarding being a common and compatible reality on streets and plazas of our cities, a collateral product of urban public space design. Viewed in this light, the project pursues to also structure its immediate surroundings, to set an effect beyond of what’s strictly built and functional for skateboarding.

Bonanova Apartments in Barcelona, Spain by PMAM

Wednesday, October 25th, 2017

Article source: PMAM

Interior refurbishment project of an old medical center –a nearby Hospital former external wing- located on a basement in a corner, facing a private inner court community garden. A flexible layout plan allows, with very few changes, to keep the existing commercial-office use or to establish two independent apartments of 100m2 each: Eventually, a façade circulation and a door –nowadays closed between two mirrors- can be simply reopened connecting the whole surface again. The interior architecture is sustained on timeless and modesty values, with no hunger for novelty or protagonism but with a rather clear will for the endurance on time of the design, and subsequently of the investment put in the renovation. It aims to be capable of supporting any of the programs set by the property owners, whether it is finally housing or offices.

Wine Country Farmhouse in Calistoga, California by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson

Wednesday, October 25th, 2017

Article source: Bohlin Cywinski Jackson

Project Narrative

Located in Calistoga, a small town in Northern California’s Napa Valley, this renovated farmhouse is placed gently into a landscape of grape vines and matured walnut trees. The clients, local winemakers, desired a modern dwelling that would complement the small estate while working within the structure of the former residence. With the home’s new design, the relationship to site and ambiguity of the plan are simplified through the subtle shifting of openings and partitions, and the addition of key unifying elements.

The re-invention of the call centre in Zurich, Switzerland by Evolution Design

Wednesday, October 25th, 2017

Article source: Evolution Design

When you think of a call centre you probably picture a line of people seated in row upon row of desks in a featureless back room. But call centres are changing. In many companies, they are now the first point of contact with customers and are increasingly important in growing new business and ensuring customer satisfaction. High tech and fast paced, with multiple contact points from email and messaging systems to video and voice calls, they also require motivated and well-trained staff. As companies recognise their growing importance, the boiler room approach is disappearing and call centres are beginning to morph into a corporate centrepiece.

Wednesday, October 25th, 2017

Article source: Studio Enrico Sassi Architect

The urban regeneration and traffic calming project for the new Spazio Incontro at Sonvico is part of a wider masterplan for the Dino and Sonvico areas. The underlying concept that informs the general project can be summarized in five points:

  1. Identifying an independent pedestrian route separate from the Cantonal road
  2. Improving and redeveloping the pedestrian route that runs through the entire area
  3. Marking the route with consistent materials so that it is easily legible
  4. Redevelop the public realm and pedestrian routes as tools for mitigating car traffic
  5. Improve, where necessary, the availability of services and urban infrastructure (parking, benches, new public spaces).
