Perforated House in Puszczykowo, Poland by SPACELAB

Thursday, December 21st, 2017

Article source: SPACELAB

The perforated house interior appeared in a completely rebuilt one-storey villa of the 1980s. The owners, who had been living there for a couple of years with their two sons, already planned a change of the inconvenient layout of rooms.

The house was surrounded by vast arboreous garden and had a great location, which finally affected the investors’ decision – instead of constructing a bigger building in a new place, they decided to follow the laborious path of total reconstruction of the existing house. This choice meant that the interior together with installations could be totally rebuilt while the exterior could be left intact.

The Southmere Village Library in London by Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter

Thursday, December 21st, 2017

Article source: Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter

How can the Southmere Village Library offer a new state-of-the-art library and create a new focal point that meets the high ambitions of the Thamesmead redevelopment?

When considering the context of the proposed new library, one becomes fascinated by the great impact this place has had on the imagination of Londoners, and its influence in England’s greatest contribution to human culture – its literature. This hinterland, where South East London meets the marshes of Kent, and the River Thames meets the open seas under a vale of mist, has inspired some of the nation’s greatest artworks – the Thames Estuary is both a gateway to the world as captured by Turner and Canaletto, and a place of eerie mystery for HG Wells and famously where Charles Dickens’ Magwitch is imagined coming ashore.

Informal cube in Rotterdam, the Netherlands by jvantspijker urbanism architecture research

Thursday, December 21st, 2017

Article source: jvantspijker urbanism architecture research

Jvantspijker Architects have designed a sturdy cube shaped house in the centre of Rotterdam. With its spatial 3-dimensional lay-out the building allows a modern family to meet the paradoxical demands of urban life: The house provides community as well as privacy to its inhabitants and it is both connected to and sheltered from the street and the surrounding city. The exterior of plain white bricks, encases a plan organized by split-level sections. The house is an urban monolith, albeit one glowing with interior life.

Coldwater Canyon Residence in Beverly Hills, California by Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects

Thursday, December 21st, 2017

Article source: Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects

The site is a deep, narrow, one-acre hillside property in Beverly Hills. The owners’ desires were to create an oasis that focused more on a sense of privacy and introspection rather than maximizing views or presenting an extroverted face to the neighborhood. In addition, the hillside site presented a number of significant technical challenges in terms of setbacks and maximum building envelope.
