SS Apartment in Sever do Vouga, Portugal by PAULO MARTINS ARQ & DESIGN

Sunday, March 4th, 2018

Article source: PAULO MARTINS ARQ & DESIGN

This project refers to the redesigning of a T1 apartment (46 m2), located in attic flat of a 70’s building, situated in a privileged area of Sever do Vouga.

The social room of the building was firstly East facing while the cosy area was West facing. The main goal of the reconstruction was to change both social and cosy areas to the opposite side, allowing a better sun exposure which also made it possible to use the contiguous balcony.

It was also created a box inside the apartment, cleary distiguished with the usage of another colour, where other facilities, such as toilet, kitchen and machines, were placed.

Ampère e+: Refurbishment of Sogeprom Headquarters in Courbevoie, France by ATELIERS 2/3/4/

Sunday, March 4th, 2018

Article source: ATELIERS 2/3/4/

The present building is showing off a typical facade of the eighties office towers’ architecture, with a less satisfying relationship with the soil, a heightened repeat of a floor standard, of a window type, with a simple and smooth façade thus a kind of autism to its own context.

The building wanted to be a tower, but it’s not. Its small length didn’t allow it to compete with its close sisters. Its location, on the fringes of La Defense’s slab, makes it belong more to the “domestic” city and its codes. Thus, he should renounce to his solitary object status.

The project is trying to rectify those miscommunications by making “Ampère e+” belong to the urban system of Courbevoie’s city, by supporting the transfer of the circular boulevard into an urban boulevard. Our task was also to shape and rank the present building, to make it comprehensible and careful to its urban context.

Golestan Residential Building is located in a wide dead end, with a maximum height of 20 meters close to a military area. The quiet atmosphere of the alley, which is due to its proper width and impassability, and also the green mass of the tree in the courtyard, led us to pay special attention to the main pavement of the project, and use this potential for Improve the quality of indoor spaces and make communication with the yard and the city. In this regard, the role of the terraces as the spaces of this communication becomes more remarkable.

Cantilever House in Seattle, Washington by ROBERT HUTCHISON ARCHITECTURE

Sunday, March 4th, 2018

Article source: ROBERT HUTCHISON ARCHITECTURE

The clients, both working professionals, lived in a small Seattle bungalow for fifteen years on a small site that overlooks Portage Bay and the University of Washington campus to the northeast. They loved the convenient location to the University and downtown Seattle, and the dynamic water views filled with rowing shells and sailboats. But the inefficient bungalow was cold in the winter and hot in the summer, had poor natural light, and suffered from significant water intrusion problems. The couple decided to construct a new house on the same property, one that would distill their urban lifestyle on an equally small footprint, yet that was specifically tailored to the qualities of the site. To assist in financing the project, they chose to devote a third of the available living area to a rentable mother-in-law apartment.

HULIC & New SHIBUYA in Tokyo, Japan by ETHNOS

Sunday, March 4th, 2018

Article source: ETHNOS

This project is on display at the Center-gai, located at the intersection of Inokashira-street and the Yumeji-street. The surroundings bristle with commercial buildings holding signboards. Our proposal is to visualize every floor as a volume in which through its full glazing façade, pedestrians can per-ceive the inner-life from the street. In this way, they recognize the building not from the signage but from the volume of the building. We produce diversity from maximizing the rental spaces through commanding the sky factor. External shaft equipment allows 100% rentable floor area ratio to pre-serve economic efficiency, and we developed a sash less, insulated glazing, fire preventing, steel curtain wall on the surface to mimic the appearance of glass in each floor as layers.

It is a residential area near the capital of the prefectural government, but it is blessed with a natural area dotted with fields and irrigation ponds. Facing the lake, surrounded by lush greenery, it is a great location that seems to come out in the movie and folklore story. The so-called architecture of the picture is a site with the power which is likely to draw how much.
