Cricket Pitch House in Sydney, Australia by Scale Architecture

Wednesday, March 14th, 2018

Article source: Scale Architecture

The Cricket Pitch House is a free standing dwelling in North Bondi, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

The client’s brief for a five bedroom house is centred on a garden suitable for backyard cricket for the growing family.

Located in a well-established suburban part of Sydney, the building’s form recalls the pitched roofs of its environs. The roof ridge runs diagonally across building, creating four different facades, each responding to their orientation.

ResoLution Signature Restaurant in Rovinj, Croatia by Studio 3LHD

Wednesday, March 14th, 2018

Article source: Studio 3LHD

A few years after the opening of Hotel Lone, Restaurant L – one of three restaurants in the hotel, was rebranded as ResoLution Signature Restaurant. 3LHD was involved in the transformation of a part of the restaurant space into a show cooking kitchen that will be used for presenting new techniques to chefs, for cooking schools, teambuilding activities etc. The design and the atmosphere are based on the recognizable Hotel Lone design with a somewhat modified material repertoire. Smoked oak wood and American walnut discreetly supplement the dominant terazzo floor and lattice ceiling, pointing out that the function of the space, and its character, has changed.

Apartment Palatina I in Lisbon, Portugal by rar.studio

Wednesday, March 14th, 2018

Article source: rar.studio

Palatina is a small palace built in the centre of Lisbon in the mid-20th century according to plans designed by Architect Carlos Rebelo de Andrade in the Português Suave style. Originally conceived to serve the purpose of a single family residence, the building was converted into four distinct apartments earlier this century. Apartment Palatina I occupies the main first floor of this mansion, the former location of the social areas – hall, office, billiards room, small living room, drawing room, pantry, dining hall, greenhouse – and correspondingly draws upon the magnificent ostentatiousness of both its amplitude and its materials and decorative details.

Infrastructure – Structure – Architecture in Venice, Italy by SUMMARY studio

Wednesday, March 14th, 2018

Article source: SUMMARY studio

The global housing deficit can be measured in the scale of billions. Two opposite approaches can be seen tackling this issue of such magnitude and scale: an inefficient approach and an efficient approach. An inefficient construction system is labor intensive, and this means that, from a political point of view, using as large a work force as possible will keep unemployment rates low, which is just as important as reducing the housing shortage. At the same time, there will be a need for approaches using very efficient prefabricated constructions able to respond quickly and accountably in terms of technical quality to an ever increasing housing demand.

Courthouse in Limoges, France by ANMA

Wednesday, March 14th, 2018

Article source: ANMA

The district courts (TGI), instance and trade Limoges are now grouped in a new courthouse, which opened to the public in June 2016.

Located in downtown Winston-Churchill Square, it is close to the historic Palace of Aine Square, which retains the Court of Appeal, joined in June by the Regional Administrative Service (following the move from the TGI to the new building). Officials and magistrates of all the courts thus benefit from a modern and comfortable building, at the height of their missions and the expectations of the litigants.

The Interactive Circular Pattern Forming Pavilion by STUDIO JANTZEN

Wednesday, March 14th, 2018

Article source: STUDIO JANTZEN

Inspired by traditional Japanese sand gardens, and by traditional gazebos, the Interactive Circular Pattern Forming Pavilion is an experimental merging of interactive art and architecture. Its ultimate purpose is to provide a very special place in and around which, its users can relax, and/or perhaps, meditate.

The space between the center pavilion and the outer perimeter circular wall is filled with a small-grained white gravel. As the footbridge and tube and rod assembly are rotated around the perimeter of the pavilion, many different patterns can be formed into the white gravel as the various rods are dragged around. The variations of patterns can be formed by the speed of rotation along with the positions of the 13 rods, and by the back and forth movement of the entire assemblage. A blade attached to the front end of the footbridge continually smoothes out the previously formed patterns so that a nearly endless variety of new patterns can be created.

Palace of Justice in Córdoba, Spain by mecanoo

Wednesday, March 14th, 2018

Article source: mecanoo

The new Palace of Justice in Córdoba is located in Arroyo del Moro which is characteristically dominated by anonymous housing blocks, products of the rapid urban development of 21st century Spanish cities. The blocks that characterize the urban fabric of the zone were not capable of generating public space or offering something new to the city, but collectively they form a compact and coherent urban identity. The addition of a public institution to the area creates the opportunity to upgrade the public realm and add a civic quality to this relatively new neighborhood.

Fort Keepers Residence in Eindhoven, Netherlands by Piet Hein Eek Architecture

Wednesday, March 14th, 2018

Article source: Piet Hein Eek Architecture

We were commissioned to design the fort keeper’s house back in 2009. Due to organisational changes, the project did not go ahead at the time. When the conversion of the fort was activated again in 2015, it seemed that our plan for the house had not been forgotten. We were asked to revive the original plans and develop them further.
