Wednesday, April 11th, 2018

Article source: Jin Seok Yang(Y GROUP)

The 2nd house; A well screened and well opened house?; Yeoju House.

It’s a ‘separated yet bonded’ house where three generations live together. It’s a home for a grandmother in her 70s, a father in his late 30s and his daughter in the 1st year of middle school. The old house didn’t have a proper room for the father, so he had to live in a company dormitory. But now the father has returned home and is living in a new house with his family. Allowing the three generations to live under the same roof, this new house is a happy home for them.

Slow House in Ulsan, South Korea by KDDH

Wednesday, April 11th, 2018

Article source: KDDH

The Slow House located in the Innovation city in Ulsan is situated in the rectangular site with 8 meters-width road at the northwest side facing the foot of Mt. Hwangbang. Since it is expected that there will be a lot of car traffics and mountain climbers, it is necessary to design a plan which protects user privacy. Therefore, the design was started with the intention of separating a private area with a public area. First, the shape of the mass was decided as a form wrapping the space and embracing the mountain. And, the lower part of the piloti resulting from the form of the mass is used as a buffer zone where the private area and the public area are separated.

Article source: marià castelló · architecture

Bosc d’en Pep Ferrer is the traditional toponym of a large plot located next to the beach of Migjorn, on the south coast of the island of Formentera. This territory has a place that unleashes the desire to inhabit an oneiric view, where the horizon is only cut by the beautiful silhouette of the Pi des Català Tower, built in 1763.

Brunswick House in Australia by Chan Architecture

Wednesday, April 11th, 2018

Article source: Chan Architecture

Renovating a semi-detached, single fronted Edwardian terrace house always poses a unique set of challenges.  The sites are often long and narrow with a shared party wall on one side and an existing house which can be over 100 years old.  The main challenge is always how to create modern, flexible, light-filled spaces with limited site access and a tight budget.

Article source: Roselind Wilson Design

All the rooms started as a blank canvas and careful consideration was given to the architectural style of the property. On the upper floor, the house has a chic modern bathroom, a study and several bedrooms. The design of the children’s rooms incorporates their favourite colours, and hints at their hobbies and interests. Both rooms include brilliant bespoke storage furniture.

Jaramteo Kindergarten in Seoul, Korea by KHY architects

Wednesday, April 11th, 2018

Article source: KHY architects

JARAMTEO KINDERGARTEN, a district kindergarten of Gwangjin-Gu is sited at a typical residential area where multi-household houses cluster in Junggok-dong. Due to narrowness of the site, facing little to the road and closely surrounded by buildings, JARAMTEO KINDERGARTEN was designed to stand out symbolically as a kindergarten, while blending in with the neighborhood. Restrictions such as, confined site area, accommodation requirement and barrier-free certification derived plans and sections. So the focus of design was on shapes of openings that determine the image of an elevation.

Mercedes-Benz Thailand Headquarters in Bangkok by PBM – Progressive Building Management Co., Ltd.

Wednesday, April 11th, 2018

Article source: PBM – Progressive Building Management Co., Ltd.

The new headquarters office of Mercedes-Benz Thailand is designed by inspiration from one of their founders, Mr. Gottlieb Daimler. He sent a postcard to his wife (with a three-pointed star marking the location of his house) writing that this star would one day shine over his own factory to symbolize prosperity. We captured the concept of stars to create the movement and the connection in the new working space. Function rooms such as meeting rooms, coffee corners, utility rooms, were planned across the entire floors which increase chances for staff to meet each others and make them easier to collaborate throughout the day. The connection stair between its 2-storey offices was also designed as a grandstand for the town hall where a hundred of staff can gather around for the company’s events. Above this space, we placed the symbolic with imported shining crystal chandelier to enhance our concept of the star and bring fabulous lighting to the property. Along the corridor, we intentionally place lighting in different size and difference direction to mimic the star in the sky.
