Magazzino Italian Art in Cold Spring, New York by MQ Architecture

Monday, May 14th, 2018

Article source: MQ Architecture

Magazzino Italian Art is a private initiative conceived by Nancy Olnick and Giorgio Spanu to house their collection of postwar Italian Art. The commission consisted in a full renovation of an existing 11,000 square-foot building and an additional 14,000 square feet of new construction. The existing L-shaped structure was erected in 1964 as a distribution center for dairy products and surrounded by loading docks and canopies. The new space needed a taller clearance, since some of the collection’s pieces were large, as well as highly controlled natural light.

Reenchanting the Parisian courtyard in France by METEK

Monday, May 14th, 2018

Article source: METEK

To share the block’s heart.

Reunion of the plots of 170 and 168 rue de Crimée.

The architectural intent is, above all, social:reinventing an urban courtyard shared by all the inhabitants while individualizing each door entrance. To create circulations that encourage encounters between neighbors, which connect – in the image of the inhabitants – buildings of different origins and natures. The layout of the buildings, the fragmentation of the mass plan allows visual breakthroughs with the courtyards of neighboring plots. There is a physical continuity with the two courtyards which belong to the same landlord.

Ferraces Dental Clinic in A Coruña, Spain by as-built ARQUITECTURA

Monday, May 14th, 2018

Article source: as-built ARQUITECTURA

This project clearly establishes a two-way dialogue between the clinic and the square facing it.

Large, vertical, butt-joint glazed window panes without intermediate profiles flood the interior with a diffused northern light and completely open up the façade, allowing for the interior ceiling’s volumetric “game” – formed of prismatic shapes in shades of blue and white – to be viewed from the outside.

Qianhai East Coast Garden 1C , 7B , 7D Show Flat in Guangdong, China by Dickson Hung Associates Design Consultants

Curves enlarge minimalist space1C Show Flat

The construction area of this project is about 90 square meters. Fashion is an eternal topic, and it is also a manifestation of characteristic. Coco Chanel said, “In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.” Through a new understanding of fashion, the designers used the principle of “less is more” to interpret a different kind of fashion. The whole space is unified with concise, smooth and fluent lines running through the interior, bringing a refreshing and natural breath. The minimalist furniture reflects the wisdom of design and humanistic spirit everywhere. By thinking differently, the designers embedded a tea table into the sofa, and applied irregular cabinets which have graceful arcs. The storage design is another highlight, the cabinets of the living room, the bed of the study room and the TV wall of the bedroom and others are ingenious.
