Patio House in Grândola, Portugal by PROMONTORIO

Friday, June 29th, 2018

Article source: PROMONTORIO

The house is located on a large field of mature cork oaks and stone pines in Grandola, Alentejo, near the Atlantic coast. Typologically, it is inspired on the Portuguese rural settlements known as “montes” which were usually located in dominant places in the landscape and formed by clusters of volumes informally positioned around a courtyard.  In like manner, the concept for this house spring from the idea of a central patio, which is the main source of light and shade.  Around and against this cut-off space, adjoining volumes aggregate the more private or servicing functions of the house —bedrooms, toilets, kitchen, pantry and storage, whereas the interstitial spaces between the volumes generate the social areas, namely, the living- and dining- rooms and the study.

The Nest in Warsaw, Poland by Grupa 5 Architekci

Friday, June 29th, 2018

Article source: Grupa 5 Architekci

The pre-war development of the parcels was shaped according to the 18th century concept of urban development, also called the Stanislawowska Axis. It was one of the key urban layouts of Warsaw, modelled on the French spatial arrangements. The concept was laid out by king Stanislaw August Poniatowski who by means of a series of star-shaped squares wished to connect the then city of Warsaw with his suburban residence in Ujazdow. Based on the existing King’s Road leading to the election grounds of Wola, a series of squares was designed, such as Na Rozdrożu, Zbawiciela, Politechniki or Unii Lubelskiej, along with the streets stretching from each of these squares. A geometrical grid of streets – some of them intersecting at sharp angles within the squares – is one of the most characteristic elements of this historical layout. Thus shaped parcels of land, completely built-up, formed narrow corner plots, defining the frontages of squares and street intersections. Koszykowa Street was planned according to such an urban development concept.

They say that every cloud has a silver lining. So a fire of the apartment may be a good reason for a its fundamental reconstruction. From the ashes of the original split and non-lighted disposition rose like a Phoenix new floorplan. It responds to the needs of five-member family of artists. Through the deployment of skylights in the walls daylight can reach all rooms of the apartment. The entrance hall has ample storage space and connects living spaces with entrance, toilet and bathroom. The main focus of the apartment is dining room with kitchen. At the big table takes place a joint meeting with the grandparents, friends and colleagues. Dining room is connected with living room by tetrahedral library with reading corner. This piece of furniture serves not only to store reading materials, but also as a family bulletin board or exhibition space for souvenirs. Living room with a desk separates the master bedroom from bedroom for their two younger kids. The third and oldest descendant has his own personal cabin.

Everlast® Advanced Composite Siding Selected for Brick Lane Community Church Renovation Durable, Low-Maintenance Siding Ideal for Large Church Addition

Brick Lane Community Church in Elverson, PA recently built a large addition onto their existing facility and underwent an exterior renovation. The project called for siding on more than half of the exterior walls – but the building team at Stoltzfus Enterprises had not fully committed to one particular type yet.

Brick Lane Community Church began in the 1970s as an apartment bible study group, and has since grown into a local church family of about 400 members and attendees. The continued growth of the congregation required an expansion to the church’s sanctuary space.
