Terakoya for Natural Science

Chiryu city in Aichi Prefecture was the 39th of the Fifty-three post-towns of Tokaido.

The site is along the old Tokaido Street where Honjin (officially appointed inn) was once positioned. It is fair to say that it is the center of the town in terms of local history. Based on such historical importance, a Chiryu-based global robot manufacturing company decided to purchase this ownerless land and make a facility for regional contribution.

Rimrock in Spokane, Washington by Olson Kundig

Monday, August 13th, 2018

Article source: Olson Kundig

“This is a project close to my heart because it is in the immediate vicinity of where I grew up, so in a sense, I was coming home to do it. The clients came to me specifically because they saw me as a local boy who did all right. They’d watched my career and liked the idea of us both being risk takers. Being on site resonated at a deep level—hearing the crunch of the snow under my feet, smelling the pine needles. It was so utterly familiar.” – Tom Kundig

3 pavilions in park along the river Seine, France by h2o architectes

Monday, August 13th, 2018

Article source: h2o architectes

The pavilions are located near the western entrance of the Lagravère Park in Colombes.

This longitudinal park follows the river Seine, which becomes the focal point of the route over 2 kilometers. The buildings are cleverly inserted, woven into the orthogonal grid formed by the landscape, engaging in a precise game of inflexion and dialogue with the trees. The three constructions are spread out along the promenade according to their function. The first pavilion, situated closest to the entrance and the future tramway stop welcomes visitors; further along, the shop emerges from the trees onto the riverside path and the lastly, the public toilets stand back, located deeper in the park, behind the trees.

Chestnut Street Townhouse in Boston, Massachusetts by Hacin + Associates

Monday, August 13th, 2018

Article source: Hacin + Associates

Chestnut Street Townhouse is the first house to be built in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood in 50 years. Located in the “Flat,” an area off the hill and across Charles Street, the original structure was thought to have been a stable before it was converted into a house in the 1920s. Deemed unsalvageable by a series of structural engineers, the building was condemned and the approval process began for its replacement. Equipped with an allegiance to the concerns of the local preservation community and a precise understanding of the neighborhood’s historic architectural elements, the team adopted a careful, surgical approach to the design of the new townhouse so as to complement rather than upstage the neighboring buildings.

Esquire Office in New Delhi, India by Studio Bipolar

Monday, August 13th, 2018

Article source: Studio Bipolar

Esquire being an American men’s magazine, published in the United States, is one which screams sophistication, yet it accomplishes this in a quirky and whimsical tone.

This thought was to be carried out in the design of their own branded nightclub in the heart of new delhi. For the sole purpose of supervision over the nightclub and its administration, Esquire needed a workspace to be developed for them in Defence Colony Market, New Delhi. This work hub was being developed for the “creative owners of a nightclub” and the design had to reflect this very aspect as well.

Hualuxe Xiamen in China by YANG & Associates Group

Monday, August 13th, 2018

Article source: YANG & Associates Group

“It’s a city above and around the sea”. Located in the south-east end of Fujian Province, Xiamen services as a major city in Southern Fujian. Surrounded by seawater, the city enjoys agreeable weather all year around, and is therefore known as a picturesque “Sea Garden”. Hualuxe Xiamen is situated at the heart of the Haicang Bay Landscape Belt. The peculiar appearance of the property resembles flying egret’s wings a lot, as if the building is soaring from Xiamen harbor and taking the entire city with it. As the interior consultant, YANG bares Hualuxe’s brand philosophies (Chinese Etiquette, Status Recognition, Rejuvenation in Nature & Enabling Space), Southern Fujian cultures and features of bay cities in mind, presenting a characterful cultural hotel that stands out from its competitors else where.
