The Estate Makati, an innovative residential tower located in the heart of Manila’s Makati Central Business District, marks the practice’s first project in the Philippines. The design embodies a unique approach to residential living, creating expansive, flexible homes in the sky that combine lush landscaping with panoramic views of the city. Situated on the last undeveloped site along the famous Ayala Avenue, the 54-storey tower combines the life and bustle of Ayala Avenue, and the quiet calm of Urdaneta Village to create an unparalleled residential experience.

Article source: KRADS

This project entails the extension and complete refurbishment and reorganisation of an early 20th century house in downtown Reykjavik, to create a contemporary, single-family home.

As is typical for many Icelandic buildings from this era, the historical edifice is a timber structure clad in corrugated iron, built on top of a cellar made from roughly hewn granite.

Nude. Coffee & Wine Bar in Moscow, Russia by FORM Bureau

Monday, September 2nd, 2019

Article source: FORM Bureau

Nude. Coffee & Wine Bar is a small family establishment located in a 1930s residential building in the picturesque heart of Moscow.

The design was informed by the materiality of the existing space. Multiple layers of plaster and paint had been partially chipped away to reveal original brick walls. This beautiful existing texture inspired the use of pared back, ascetic materials such as concrete and wood, with small brass accents and a bold black and white tile pattern.

The space is divided between an open kitchen and dining area, with a large bar top acting as an intermediary, at which visitors can eat and follow the cooking process.

ONE Putney Residential Building in London, United Kingdom by PHASE3

Monday, September 2nd, 2019

Article source: PHASE3

ONE Putney, a landmark scheme in London, aims at transforming a neglected stretch of the town centre while establishing a new dialogue for future developments along this main thoroughfare. Simultaneously mitigating the scale of the high street and the adjacent neighbourhood required a thoughtful response in order to create a well proportioned and well crafted building for the future.

The six-storey BREEAM Excellent building includes 15 residential apartments, a shared rooftop terrace and green roofs. The design plays with interlocking volumes, reinterpreting the original structure in a new way. Curved corners emphasise the continuous lines along the high street and Montserrat Road, activating more pedestrian space. Horizontal and vertical elements are formed from precast concrete, echoing townscape materials. Carefully respecting scale and the relationship between the high street and bordering residential road, the mixed-use development establishes a strong identity and active retail frontage, with the rear elevation stepping down to reflect the height of two-storey terraced housing behind.

CLV House in Wallis, Switzerland by Alp’Architecture Sàrl

Monday, September 2nd, 2019

Article source: Alp’Architecture Sàrl

The project is tightly bound to the few liberties left by the plot on which it is located. The north exposition and the numerous constructions in the surrounding area required an important work in order to settle the access, the relations to the site and the landscape as well as the spaces placement and the natural light input.

The house takes advantage of the natural slope to connect its ground floor and upper floor to the garden and is shaped with light bevels in order to frame stunning views on the villages and nature of the valley of Bagnes.

Municipality of Suleymanpasa in Tekirdağ, Turkey by MANÇO ARCHITECTS Inc.

Monday, September 2nd, 2019

Article source: MANÇO ARCHITECTS Inc.

When viewed from the sky it is noticed that the green tissue cuts through building islands and reaches the shore in the east of the center of Tekirdag, a city in Thrace region of Turkey surrounded by agricultural land on the north and Marmara Sea on the south. The competition plot is located right next to this intersection where the urban meets the rural. There the sloping topography is sliced with retaining walls reaching 14m height on the northern corner of the plot, in order to create a bus station on the same level with the avenue. The thought that emerged in response to those walls bordering the green and built areas has been the starting point of the architectural design: “Eliminating the walls of the dam so that the buildings from one side and the greenery from the other mix and flow toward the street level; recreating the destroyed part of the topography with the emerging hybrid tectonic pile.”

The functions of the building program were solved as floors with differing sizes stacked on top of the other according to parameters such as, the level of connection with the street, interrelations among the municipality units and load bearing structure concerns. The building mass was shaped as cascades parallel to the retaining walls, in order to refer to the slope of the topography.
