A detached house built on three levels and situated in a small rural village, in an agricultural context consisting of land planted with corn. The entrance opens directly onto the living area, through sliding windows overlooking the double height porch. The outdoor paving continues even inside the house, to emphasize the close relationship with the surrounding countryside. The project is based on the strong contrast between the outside of the house, more rustic and tied to local building traditions, and the interior, more contemporary, with smooth spaces arranged in succession, without interruption.
Our clients desired a building that would endure time, evoke a sense of permanence and a sense of already existing on the site. Brick was the natural choice that immediately met this requirement.
The site sits on the edge of the Swan River with views to the city of Perth. The design creates an experiential connection to the meandering river, a fluid and dynamic body of water that has carved out mass forming a direct engagement with the occupant.
I was surprised twice when I first visited the Daekyoung Factory. The first surprise was the beautiful scenery of the mouth or the river of the Nakdong River, and the second surprise was that the beautiful scenery could not be seen at all from the factory complex. There were three buildings in the complex, with two buildings lined up on parallel lines, making a rectangular plaza. The plaza was busy, with many workers passing by. The third building was placed perpendicularly with the plaza, blocking the scenery towards the sea. I felt sorry for the factory workers, who are so close to the beautiful scenery, but could not even see it.
Planned to be the Research and Development center for Adobe Systems, an American multinational computer software company headquartered in California, United States, the campus is conceived as a highly utilitarian and functionality-driven office. The brief was to plan a world class Campus for over 2000 IT professionals in an energy efficient sustainable Office space.
In Gongju city, Lucia’s husband Johan built a chocolatery and named it <Choco Luce> next to <Lucia’s Earth>, a space provided to study and consume tea.
The building is roofed with blue tiles and is situated adjacent from the fence and the garden of <Lucia’s Earth>. As a layer of cement was, with care, peeled off of pillars from an old Hanok (Korean traditional house) that was revived into the chocolatery, the <Choco Luce> yields rather a modern atmosphere comparatively to that of <Lucia’s Earth>’s traditional sentiment. Re-visitation, I believe, indeed is a glimpse of an aspect of constructing property and a part of building history.
This project is about designing a home for a young couple, their dog, and future child within a 70 M2 interior space, and how to make space within such a limited condition to create an unique living experience.
Pirineos 125 is a department building that answers to the neediness of households in Mexico City. The project maximizes all the areas reducing the circulations and giving the priority to the living spaces. The building is spread in four levels, has eleven departments and a roof garden. The departments, with 67 m2, have two bedrooms with bathrooms, living-dining room and kitchen. The design provides natural light to all the rooms and the curtain wall facade creates a shadow play through the living room.
Electronic music is a new subject for architecture. Most of the times electro nights take place in spaces that were not specially designed for them: clubs or night clubs, warehouses, fields, stadiums… For the Grenoble project, the aim was to invent a specific architectural system for a new type of spectacle and relationship with the public, whilst allowing concerts with a more traditional configuration.
St. Bernard’s Secondary School’s new Multipurpose Hall is a combined assembly and dining hall providing room for 650 students. On a footprint of 680m² it accommodates a covered external auditorium including a simple stage and a school kitchen with associated servery, dish collection, stores and manager’s office.
