Built in mid-19th century the building organically combines its historical architectural legacy and cutting-edge functionality of the futuristic technical centre. Zifergauz is designed to embrace digital reality and advanced ideas. It stands at the site where under Peter the Great history took a new turn and the great Russian fleet saw its early days. The building was designed to vertically store the timber delivered for the needs of the Admiralty shipyards.

Minimalist Apartment with Panoramic View in Prague, Czech Republic by Barbora Léblová Interiors & Architecture

Monday, May 31st, 2021

Article source: Barbora Léblová Interiors & Architecture

The site, formerly zoned as football stadium, is located next to Parukářka, a city park popular with Prague residents and visitors. The apartment complex is the work of an internationally recognised local studio, A69. The residential complex is composed as a ring of sloping terrace townhouses, hidden behind a green wall, referencing a landscaped bowl with contrasting taller apartment blocks rising above as metaphorical football terraces. The masterplan visually extends the existing city park and introduces an exceptional panorama capturing the Žižkov TV Tower with views across the city to Prague Castle. This careful composition allows the apartment owners to enjoy uninterrupted views of the iconic skyline from all rooms within the apartment, including the master bathroom.

Shenzhen Terraces in China by MVRDV

Friday, May 28th, 2021

Article source: MVRDV

MVRDV has begun construction on Shenzhen Terraces, a mixed-use project that forms the core of the thriving university neighbourhood in Shenzhen’s Longgang District. The project comprises a stack of accessible plates containing the buildings’ programme, where all communication takes place on the shaded terraces to maximise public life. Designed with sustainability as a focus, the project’s green outdoor spaces mix together with a wide variety of activities – including a theatre, a library, a museum, a conference centre, and retail – to make the site a hub for meeting, learning, leisure, culture, and relaxation. The stacked horizontal terraces provide a valuable contrast to the high-rise towers all around, but they also perform an ecological function: overhangs provide shade and the round shape promotes wind flow and natural ventilation. The abundance of greenery, pedestrian paths, and water features make the project one of the more sustainable in Shenzhen.

Article source: Zemberek Design

To detach the users from the chaotic city life was intended by enriching the experience with fluid circulation which is created with preferring organic forms in construction elements and the feeling of “serenity” that accompanies. Also, flexible usage of the custom-designed movable furniture modules procures the variable space perception and perspectives in the project, which was designed by Zemberek Design for a well-established textile company, Ulupınar Tekstil.

Cuisuba Yi Cultural & Visitor Center in Guizhou, China by West-line Studio

Thursday, May 27th, 2021

Article source: West-line Studio

On a northwestern Guizhou typical plateau, placed at an altitude of above 2,000 meters in-between untouched grassland hills and mountains, stands the Cuisuba Yi Cultural & Visitor Center. Completed in March 2021, the center was conceived as a landmark to pay homage to the Yi people, an ethnic minority group mainly residing in the mountainous regions and rural areas of South-West China. The building grows from a slope with a maximum inclination of 20 degrees, surrounded by mountains all around. Commissioned by the Dafang County Tourism Development Office in order to provide the basic structure to promote tourism in the area, the center aims to become a symbolic landmark celebrating Yi culture.

West-line Studio has a long history in building cultural centers in Guizhou province influenced by local ethnic minorities; the practice’s approach has always been characterized by deep research on the peculiar cultural aspects of a particular community, which can result in rites, fabrics, patterns, construction techniques, festivals, and pictograms, in order to bring some of these unique features into the design, creating a strong bond with local culture and collective memory.
