The intervention stems from the need to equip the current nursery school of the Municipality of Roverbella with an artifact, replacing the ancient already present in the vicinity, dedicated to the hospitality and care of early childhood, for the range from 0 to 3 years. CIVILIVN transformed a former embassy in Palazzo Capizucchi—a 16th-century ecclesiastical residence in the heart of Rome—into a new academic center for the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE). The renovated space now serves as the CIEE Global Institute in Rome, helping advance the nonprofit’s mission of providing meaningful study-abroad experiences that prepare students to live in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world. CIVILIVN was involved in all stages of the renovation, supporting project management firm DBI with the initial property search and leading the project from the space planning phase through concept development and execution.
The guesthouse located in Nishijin Kyoto’s famed weaving district which is in the northwest part of central Kyoto and one of the most traditional areas of the city.
The client manages a cultural salon next to the site, at the same time works as diving instructor, therefore the guesthouse is being used for tourists and the guests of him who comes from far.
In the summer of 2014 a spark on a clearcut started Sweden’s then largest forest fire in modern history. The summer after the fire, 2015, architecture student Mikael Hassel was hiking in the area and was greatly influenced by the experience. In the same year he started his Masters thesis at Stockholm’s Royal Institute of Technology (KTH Arkitektur); with the aim of making the site accessible to the public. Mikael’s project became a series of interventions in this newly formed Nature Reserve, Hälleskogsbrännan.
During this time, the County Administrative Board in Västmanland announced a competition for a Visitor Centre on the site. The competition’s judges awarded first prize to Mikael’s proposal, which was based on his thesis work; the project was completed during his employment at pS Arkitektur.
The store is located in an important commercial area of Buenos Aires, in front of one of the busiest bike-paths in the city.
The project arises from the need to duplicate the sq ft of the existing store, due to the exponential growth of the company. Nowadays, the 4000 sq ft are distributed in three floors: 1st is the main shop, workshop and patio; 2nd is the warehouse and product development area; 3rd is for main offices, meeting room, dining room and terrace.
“Sun shines through leaves, casts mottled light and shadows, and fills the wood color-dominated space with warmth, vigour and natural ambience,” the design team said.
