Located on the banks of the St. Lawrence River in Sorel, the residence is positioned to benefit from the natural topography of the site. From the road, the long and narrow land is relatively flat over most of its area, except at the end of the lot where a significant height difference makes it possible to reach the river. This characteristic determined the location of the residence; an opportunity to have a garden level totally open on the river.
The owner of this project, who had lived in Japan for a long time, has a unique taste for wood of space and paper art.
The core concept is “folding paper”.
We studied its folding process from flat to a 3D box so that can contain functional objects and serene atmosphere inside.
This movement concept allowed us to form a very simple space that can be folded inside. With the technique of extension in that long space, the floor is extended to the wall, and along to the ceiling.
The Rio Vista Residence is a 2,160 square foot single-family residence located on a cliff overlooking the Trinity River and downtown Dallas. The site is situated on a cul-de-sac in an established neighborhood and has panoramic views to the north. The existing topography forms a natural clearing for the building in the center of the site with native trees to the south, east, and west.
Passive solar orientation for the residence is along an east/west axis with views and natural light to the north, morning light from the east, shaded breezes from the south, and minimal exposure to the west. Energy efficient building systems are paired with sustainable materials to create a high-performance, durable, low-maintenance home.
BEBECÊ is a famous women shoe company in Brazil. Once a year the company launches their winter collection at Zero Degrees fair in one of the best Brazilian site for tourists called Gramado, in the extreme south of Brazil.
Our That Design team was hired again to project and build their 156m2 in the main street of the fair, in a way that retailers would feel invited to visit the stand and buy their products for the next season.
The building is situated nearby a mountain lake and is configured with two major volumes, taking advantage of the natural form of the site, which presents two major level drops intercalated with two approximately flat areas: one volume that houses the rooms and reception, and the second volume that contains living and dining spaces, the restaurant kitchen and and technical spaces, both volumes are thus articulated as to exploit at maximum the geometric configuration of the land, orientation and views the site has, considering the insertion in site and how the building creates a dialogue with the environment.
Maly Krasota Design recently completed a two-storey apartment project in Kiev for a large family.
In addition to having two small children in the family who need space for games, apartment owners often receive guests. Therefore, one of the basic requirements for design, was the possibility of transforming the premises for different scenarios: the space should be convenient for both cozy family evenings and for noisy parties with many friends.
In 2014 we received an invitation from Area 17, an architectural firm with offices in China. We were invited to bid on a large residential development in the city of Shenzhen, 30 minutes from Hong Kong in China’s Guangdong province.
At the end of the seventies, Shenzhen was a small market town of less than thirty thousand people. By 2016 it was a megacity of 12 million.
