The Bund Finance Centre Shanghai in China by Foster + Partners

Thursday, November 2nd, 2017

Article source: Foster + Partners

The Bund Finance Centre – a major new mixed-use development jointly designed by Foster + Partners and Heatherwick Studio – is set to revitalise Shanghai’s waterfront. Occupying a prominent site on the Bund, the buildings define the ‘end point’ to Shanghai’s most famous street. The 420,000-square metre masterplan is highly permeable for pedestrians, with the design conceived as a point of connection between the old town and the new financial district.

Binet Business Centre in Paris, France by AZC Atelier Zündel Cristea

Wednesday, September 13th, 2017

Article source: AZC Atelier Zündel Cristea

The Porte de Montmartre neighborhood is located in the northwest part of the 18th arrondissement of Paris, bordering the town of Saint-Ouen. It comprises one of the priority sites in the extensive Urban Renewal project undertaken by the city of Paris in its effort to increase engagement and set into motion a real process of change. Our project met the programmatic requirements calling for a complex of 59 premises for businesses, with communal areas, a multipurpose hall, a conference room, cafeteria, and 33 parking spots underground. Our goal is to build a sustainable structure for businesses, the whole integrating a specific quality of life, expressed through a generosity of openings, terraces, workspaces, quality landscape planning, views, multiple orientations . . . in short, architecture that transforms urban and programmatic constraints into veritable assets. It is a terraced structure that splits and turns at a right angle, remaining parallel to a second road. The L-shaped building has large bay windows looking out from all sides throughout, while a large hall traverses and opens up the ground floor. The entrance halls meet in front of the elevators, preserving an east-west transparency at all levels of the building. The architecture of our building is directly inspired by the principle of a “daylight factory”. This North American architectural tendency seeks to bring the maximum amount of natural light into the workspaces. The workshop and office buildings are thus designed with open-space floors, lit internally through facades made largely of glass, and topped by terraced roofing.

The Sales Center of Capital Visionary Residence in Beijing, China by W. Design

Sunday, July 16th, 2017

Article source: W. Design

Western Hills in the western part of Beijing where the Old Summer Palace is located—is far from the hustle and bustle of the city. This project’s design is a combination of cultural elements of Western Hills and modern oriental design techniques. A shaded corridor leads to a space possessing a fantastic view. The moment people enter the space, they feel as if they have walked into a beautiful painting that features both ancient elegance and modern freedom. “Let me forget my worldly worries and find peace in the woods of the Western Hills; the white clouds seem to have read my mind, and drift slowly down from the forest to keep me company.”

Shanghai Baoye Center in China by LYCS Architecture

Friday, July 7th, 2017

Article source: LYCS Architecture

Shanghai Baoye Center is part of the phase-2 urban development scheme for the new Central Business District in Hongqiao, a rapidly developing piece of western Shanghai. The location of the project puts it at the center of car, train, and jet transportation, and is in fact the last building one sees before entering the busy Hongqiao High-Speed Rail Terminal from the south by bullet train, granting the project a significant urban presence. The site has several challenging conditions: sandwiched by two city-designated temporary green spaces into an L shape, with a 60% frontage ratio requirement to the east, west and south, and a 24m tall highway overpass running adjacent to its north face, the building must respond to a maximum FAR of 1.60 and a height of 24m.

VMware Campus in Palo Alto, California by Form4 Architecture

Friday, June 30th, 2017

Article source: Form4 Architecture

Design

The asymmetrical balance between nature and architecture is the supporting idea for Form4 Architecture’s design of VMware Campus, set in Palo Alto, CA, housing the cloud infrastructure and business mobility company’s headquarters. Encompassing 11 buildings and three parking structures for a total of more than 1.8 million square feet, the campus was designed to reject the confines of traditional office buildings, and capitalize on the serene setting in which it was built as a reflection of the company’s values. The architecture and design scheme take on its forms by revisiting the basic principles of urban design with a 21st-century twist. The project’s architecture of presence is discreet, but not timid. It sets a mechanism that allows for the flexibility of future growth, yet is fully realized in its architectural aspiration.
