Milwaukie Way in Portland, Oregon by Waechter Architecture

Sunday, December 2nd, 2018

Article source: Waechter Architecture

Milwaukie Way reconsiders the potential for an urban infill development to respond to its context, creating a lively public space while also preserving the existing built fabric.

Sited on a central commercial avenue in a Southeast Portland, the clients saw potential to add leasable space in the form of retail, cafes and office to their corner lot. The biggest challenge was how to integrate the existing 1929 Spanish Colonial style building that was to stay. Housing a restaurant below and office space above, the historic building sat squarely at the center of the lot, greatly limiting available street frontage and the opportunity to engage passing shoppers.

Eventscape was contracted to engineer, fabricate and install the interior and exterior curved vertical fin elements for the renovation of a ten story building that houses a number of high profile companies. The wave pattern, also repeated on the exterior, makes a dramatic impact upon arrival. Situated on either side of the main entrance are thirty-four, 20-foot tall steel fins with integrated lighting, which create a sinuous wave of light.

Lè Architecture in Taipei, Taiwan by Aedas

Friday, September 14th, 2018

Article source: Aedas

Aedas-designed Lè Architecture in Taipei, Taiwan, received the most public votes for Commercial-Office – High Rise (16+ Floors) and won Architizer A+ Popular Choice Awards 2018. This year the highly publicised campaign received over 400,000 public votes from more than 100 countries and territories.

Designed by Global Design Principal Dr Andy Wen, Lè Architecture in the Nangang district of Taipei is set to redefine Taipei’s rapidly developing skyline. Its design drew inspiration from the shape of the river pebbles along the Keelung River, developing a unique aesthetic concept that conveys the idea of roundness and elegance, as well as strength and character. The building’s egg-like shape implies it is an incubator of knowledge and a metaphor of intellectual revival, which integrates well with the local context and marks an important milestone in the revitalisation of the fast-emerging Nangang district. The 60-metre tall office building employs multiple strategies to add greenery to the façade and is focused on minimising energy demands which enabled it to achieve a LEED Gold certification.
