University Center Maria Antonia in São Paulo, Brazil by Una Arquitetos

Thursday, December 6th, 2018

Article source: Una Arquitetos

Maria Antonia Street is a historical reference for the University of São Paulo and a mark in the cultural and political life of the city. As the address of the Mackenzie College since the end of the 19th century, the Maria Antonia Street became a catalyser of academic and social discussions after the establishment of the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters at the Rui Barbosa Building, on 1949.

After a violent invasion of the building, by a group of right wing students, escorted by the police in 1968, the Faculty of Philosophy was transferred to the campus of the University (Cidade Universitária).

Aljada Central Hub in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates by Zaha Hadid Architects

Monday, November 19th, 2018

Article source: Zaha Hadid Architects

Arada has announced Phase One of the Central Hub in Sharjah will complete in the first quarter of next year. The focal point of the US$6.5 billion Aljada development in Sharjah, the Central Hub by Zaha Hadid Architects is a new leisure and entertainment destination for the UAE that defines Aljada’s role as a transformational project for Sharjah.

The Central Hub’s design conceptualises the first moment a water droplet strikes the earth’s surface, captured in an array of elliptical buildings that are designed to channel prevailing winds into public spaces and courtyards to aid natural cooling.

Arada’s commitment to sustainability and smart technologies is integrated within the Central Hub. The complex’s natural ecosystem, irrigated by recovered and recycled water, is designed to sustain a microclimate at ground level for gardens featuring plant species native to the region, while the Central Hub’s lighting requirements will be entirely provided by smart solar power.

More than 25 football fields in size (1.9 million square feet), the car-free Central Hub is focussed around its large central plaza and public observation tower.

Technical Faculty Campus Odense Universitet in Denmark by C.F. Møller

Friday, November 9th, 2018

Article source: C.F. Møller

The Technical Faculty is part of the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Odense, and constitutes a shared research and education environment for four different institutes. The building is designed as one big envelope consisting of 5 buildings connected by bridges at multiple levels crossing the heart of the complex, a “piece of furniture” containing common functions, meeting-rooms and café/lounge areas. The many connections allow for more fluid boundaries, and more community and knowledge sharing.

Klencke in Amsterdam, The Netherlands by NL Architects

Tuesday, November 6th, 2018

Article source: NL Architects

Klencke (or Terras op Zuid) is a residential complex with a distinctive stepped profile that provides supersized outdoor spaces with a spectacular orientation.

Klencke contains 50 units and will soon go up on the so-called Zuidas. The Zuidas is the CBD of Amsterdam; a point of gravity that absorbs financial institutions, law firms and related services, the La Defense or the Canary Wharf of the Netherlands.

Klencke is strategically located at the border of the inner city: a 5 minute walk from an elegant shopping center, a 5 minute bike ride from the economic heart and 5 minute drive from the highway. Work, sports, recreation: all within reach. The nearby station brings you in no time to the airport.

The site is somewhat hidden alongside a lush canal that is part of the ‘ecological framework’ of the city: an unexpected green oasis.

Teatre Auditori Torredembarra in Spain by NAM Arq + NUA arquitectures

Monday, October 29th, 2018

Article source: NAM Arq + NUA arquitectures

The proposal is based on the will by the City Hall of Enabling the lobby of the current Teatre de Torredembarra. We believe that the Torrencs deserve much more than a hallway enabled in an abandoned theater. Regardless of its current state and its architecture, the building is now a faulty reference point in a gray period for the history of Torredembarra.

Vilnius Tech Park in Lithuania by A2SM ARCHITEKTAI

Thursday, October 25th, 2018

Article source: A2SM ARCHITEKTAI

Vilnius Tech Park building complex designed by A2SM architects is located in the area known as Sapiegos park. The place is a collection of low rise XIX century brick buildings which used to be a hospital and a park. Architects have been tasked to redesign the existing buildings to fit a whole lot of new functions, the main one being – a collaborative hub, focused on startups and technology companies. The historic site has revealed itself to be very flexible towards the contemporary needs of office space and also adaptable for expansion. Architects have revealed the most graphic features of the old buildings and framed them to be the part of the new interior. Old roof timber was salvaged and reworked into the tables and benches for the public areas of the complex. With this outlook of experimental heritage protection Vilnius Tech Park stands as one of a kind complex for startup companies in the whole Baltic area.
