Architectural Concept

Designed by the Richter Dahl Rocha & Associés Architects, the Aquatis complex is part of the Biopôle, a science-based science park in the north of Lausanne. The place is strategic, at the crossroads of the motorway bypass of the city with the new M2 line of the Lausanne metro, inaugurated in 2008. The set consists of a parking-relay on which are placed a hotel and the aquarium -vivarium City of fresh water, connected by a central mall that connects with the metro station «Lausanne-Vennes», and with the car park. Each building has its own identity, but contributes to the coherence of the whole.

BMLZ Villa Office in Tongzhou District, China by Tsutsumi and Associates

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018

Article source: Tsutsumi and Associates

This is a building complex for an architectural material company that mainly deals with import carpet and domestic acoustic absorption material. We renovate and expand the existing building which has basement floor and 3 floors above the ground. Because of the difference of ground level, basement floor has open space on its south side, but on its north side it can’t get daylight. We need to carefully design the expanded volume so as not to block the daylight into the existing space. We studied a lot of models, like hollow volumes around central court or several separated volumes, and finally decided upon a simple box. In consequence, on the one hand its volume is just a simple box with a lot of randomly openings on its walls and roof, on the other hand the 4 scattered small courts make the plan complex. Because the openings of the small courts are restrained so that we feel it “inside”, but inside we can see trees and receive enough daylight from toplights so we feel it “outside”, of course the existing area also receive enough daylight. That is to say, the inside and outside are reversed, or those are merged.

The existing real estate complex known as “Fulton” was built in the 1950s by architect Daniel Michelin and is occupied by 133 dwellings. The site benefits from a very beautiful location, clear, in front of the seine, near the bridge of Bercy in the East and the museum of fashion and design at the West, a contemporary building realized by the architects Jakob + Macfarlane.

Complexo Dom Pedro in São Paulo, Brazil by FGMF Architects

Friday, March 30th, 2018

Article source: FGMF Architects

Some years ago we were invited to design the Dom Pedro Complex project: two entire clubs, with headquarters, entrances and sports and leisure outdoor areas. The architecture should propose a unique identity for both clubs, but at the same time design independently flows organization, spaces, dimensions, relation with views and surroundings. Almost like two projects in one.

NeuBau3 in Linz, Austria by Zechner & Zechner ZT GmbH

Sunday, March 25th, 2018

Article source: Zechner & Zechner ZT GmbH

Completion of the listed complex by Peter Behrens

Compared to the original building by Peter Behrens, who in the 1930s created an internationally regarded masterpiece of Modernism with Tabakfabrik Linz, the new development added in the early 1980s was not of the same architectural standard.

The 80s addition was demolished, releasing a site that the Linz authorities thought would be the perfect location for the main building of the Tabakfabrik complex and, based on its key geographical role in the fabric of the city, they decided it would be a historic chance to positively impact the development of the city.
