BURSA in Kiev, Ukraine by balbek bureau

Wednesday, February 20th, 2019

Article source: balbek bureau

It is difficult to describe BURSA in one word. It is not just a hotel or a restaurant, not a bar or an art gallery. It is all of the above, a bespoke hotel complex fitted comfortably into a mix of centuries-old buildings in historical and cultural center of Kyiv – Podil.

Our very first meeting with BURSA’s founder was an instant ‘click’, followed by months of panning, designing and building.  Our shared vision – to create a conceptual space with its own philosophy – has materialized as a unique place with distinctive design and multiple functionalities.

The Wave in Vejle in Denmark by Henning Larsen Architects

Tuesday, February 5th, 2019

Article source: Henning Larsen Architects

Following an eleven-year construction period interrupted by the global financial crisis, Henning Larsen’s The Wave apartment building in Vejle, Denmark has finally reached completion.

Construction on the 14,000 m2 complex, consisting of 100 apartments, began in 2006, following an architectural vision of five consecutive wave-shaped towers lining the water along Vejle Fjord. However, the global recession of 2008 interrupted construction after the completion of only two towers. They stood unaccompanied along the waterfront, the first chapters in an unfinished story.

Article source: KOLENIK Eco Chic design

Kolenik’s design for commanding 1000m2 Rotterdam penthouse takes exclusivity to a whole new level.

Interior designer Robert Kolenik was given the dream job of creating a design proposal for the Netherlands’ most exclusive penthouse. ‘The Box’ forms the extravagant focal point of the glittering waterfront Bay House complex, designed by Joke Vos Architecten, and set at the heart of the city’s vibrant Rijnhaven district. Developer Frame Vastgoed commissioned Kolenik to conjure up an exclusive, cosmopolitan feel for the 1000m2 penthouse to show buyers what was possible for this impressive space.

‘The Box’ is an ultra high-end apartment with an imposing storey height of up to 12 metres, two private lifts, several private parking spaces, and generous floor-to-ceiling windows offering spectacular views. Best of all, the interior architecture can still be adjusted according to the buyer’s wishes.

61st Street Townhouse in New York by TRA Studio

Friday, January 25th, 2019

Article source: TRA Studio

This turn of the century, four-story brick townhouse with an exceedingly rare two-story rear carriage house, is not landmarked; at first the townhouse seemed to be in a mediocre preserved condition, but a closer investigation revealed that both buildings had lost most of their original details, in fact, the carriage house façade was nothing more than a plywood painted mask that created three arched openings, clearly too small for any stable. The project offered the unique opportunity to rethink what had become two separate mixed use, heavily altered buildings, into a single, unique, private complex The project makes the most of the unique conditions, enhancing all of the characteristics that make “townhouse” living desirable, without the downsides inherent to the compact size, on the interior the final result is completely unexpected in a 20’ wide structure, the spaces feel wider and luminous, comfortably equipped by amenities rarely found in townhouses, such as concealed storage and an elevator.

Centre for Contemporary Art DOX+ in Prague, Czech Republic by Petr Hájek Architekti

Thursday, January 24th, 2019

Article source: Petr Hájek Architekti

The DOX+ complex of buildings expands the DOX Contemporary Art Centre in Prague, the Czech Republic. The original complex focusing on exhibition areas was expanded by special areas for dance, music, film and a school of architecture.

DOX+ consist of three buildings: administrative with the school of architecture, an experimental music and dance hall and a dance rehearsal room. The buildings are a single unit from the architectural aspect and this principle is symbolically expressed by the unified grey colour and fluid interconnection of all parts into one whole. As a result, the complex can be perceived as a single structured statue.
