SO? has redesigned an existing 20000 m2 public cultural center by a major renovation project for Beylikduzu Municipality in Istanbul. Located in a district with 317.000 population, the project serves as a major public spot with its vibrant facilities such as library, children library, multi-purpose hall, playground area, workshops and studios and cinema halls, all reconfigured and redesigned by SO?. The building has gone under both structural and architectural renovation that require the redesigning of the entire interior and the façade.
The NYS Equal Rights Heritage Center, designed by Brooklynbased nARCHITECTS, was opened to the public in a ceremony on November 13th with State and City officials, and members of the Auburn community. Commissioned by the City of Auburn, NY and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, nARCHITECTS designed the new 7,500sf building and outdoor space, transforming a former municipal parking lot into the new civic and cultural heart of historic Auburn, NY, home of Harriet Tubman. The ribbon cutting ceremony for the building and a new statue of Harriet Tubman was attended by Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, Pauline Copes Johnson (Harriet Tubman’s great-great-grandniece), NY State Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey, Auburn Mayor Michael Quill, and others.

Shenzhen has been growing rapidly since being named a ‘special economic zone’ in 1980. High-rise structures have transformed the city’s skyline as its population has grown to over 12 million. Located in the city’s eastern Longgang district, the Cultural Centre contributes a rich and varied cultural programme housed in an iconic urban connector.
The market place, besides the city hall and the church, has always been the most important part of the center of the 4th district. However, from the 1970s on, the introverted late-modern market buildings and their service area occupied the public space of St. Stephen Square. The purpose of the current transformation is to give this space back to pedestrians and events by the forthcoming demolition of obsolete buildings, while the market is renewed within up-to-date frames.

Concept
“Teglen” is conceptually perceived as a brick volume, elevated from the public town square and gently inserted into the adjacent sloping terrain. The key act of lifting the introvert ceremonial functions up over the ground floor lets the extrovert functions such as café, activity rooms and municipal services connect to the town square. With its red brick flooring, the town square connects the building with the train platforms like a “red carpet”.
The iconic east façade, the “wall of kings”, rises vertically up over the town square, establishing a clear orientation and a strong fond motif. The resulting shape of the building draws resemblance and reference to both traditional church spires and the towering brick chimneys of the Spikkestad brick factory formerly situated on the neighboring property.
The Administration of Mesola has shown the need to intervene on the Estense Castle with a restoration project in order to fit out transformable spaces for exhibitions and events. The Administration has nominated the intervention at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism and has obtained financing in the Inter-provincial Intervention Project No. 30 called Ducato Estense (implemented in the Interministerial program “Piano Stralcio _ Cultura e Turismo” Fund for Development and Cohesion _ FSC 2014-2020.).
Asia Culture Center is an international complex cultural public institution. It features Asian cultural exchange, collection and research of cultural resource, contents production, exhibition, performance, archive, distribution and so on.
The designers took charge of lobby design of international conference room where home and abroad honored guests would visit frequently.
The client wanted this lobby to have Korean traditional identity because the guests come from all over the world.
CASA FIRJAN is a space for reflection and creation of proposals and innovative solutions to the challenges of the new economy.
The project, recently awarded as the Best New Building in the Annual Award of the Architect´s Institute of Rio de Janeiro, is the result of an architectural competition in 2012, promoted by the Federation of Industries of Rio de Janeiro. Implemented on the site of the Palacete Linneu de Paula Machado, residence of the family Guinle in Botafogo, CASA FIRJAN connects in its various spaces corporate, educational and cultural activities, promoting encounter among the actors of the Creative Industries within a space of connectivity and interaction.
In 2011 one of Denmark’s most iconic culture venues burnt to the ground. Since 1938, the K.B. Hall has been a driving force behind some of the most significant concerts and events in Copenhagen. Now the hall will be revived in a contemporary architectural interpretation based on three principles: the Gable, the Disk and the Arch. The Gable is made of glass that open up the hall’s interior to create a connection between the life of the hall and the surrounding area. The Gable is part of a journey through the urban spaces of Copenhagen, where the hall’s visitors reach their destination upon entering the foyer. In the Disk, on the first floor, bars and lounges are placed around the concert hall under the Arch. The Arch is the large unifying structure that recreates the K.B. hall’s iconic look. Inside, the balconies, balustrades, bars and fittings will all have historical references. The new flexible architecture, the acoustics and technical solutions all fulfil the requirements for a contemporary event venue.
A significant project for the Quebec dance community, this building demonstrates that it is possible to create large-scale living environments that combine a distinct architectural signature with best practices in sustainable design.
The design of this cultural complex required special consideration by integrating this industrial building into the urban fabric of Montreal’s Quartier des spectacles. With the support of various partners, Ædifica’s team of experts in construction and sustainable design put in place innovative strategies to propel the Wilder Building to the next level of building performance and resource conservation in the pursuit of a LEED Certification issued by the Canada Green Building Council.
