Potato Heads Studio Hotel in Bali, Indonesia by OMA

Friday, February 28th, 2020

Article source: OMA

While the essence of Bali lies in interaction between different cultures, the ubiquitous resort typology currently in Bali and other tropical destinations paradoxically emphasises hotel guests’ exclusive enjoyment, detached from the life of the local community. Located on one of the last remaining unoccupied beach front sites in Seminyak, the Potato Head Studios challenges the typical resort typology: the notion of “exclusivity” is abandoned; the resort is reconsidered as a part of the local community.

Five Nations Golf and Hotel in Belgium by JAHNKE-LEDANT Architects (JLA)

Wednesday, February 26th, 2020

Article source: JAHNKE-LEDANT Architects (JLA)

In 1990 the famed golfer and golf course architect, Gary Player, designed a golf course that was built on the grounds of the original ‘chateau ferme’. This chateau, which was constructed between 1745 and 1826, and golf course rests in the bucolic Belgian countryside and is regarded as one of the most beautiful in Belgium with its commanding views and natural setting. The chateau had been only partially occupied for services with more than half left vacant and unused for decades. Under new ownership, the transformation of the facility was completed in 2018 that breathes new life into the building through a reorganization of the entire structure, which includes the incorporation of a new 35-room hotel.

Bikini Berlin in Germany by UAU collectiv

Thursday, February 20th, 2020

Article source: UAU collectiv

In the Summer of 2008 UAU collective (before named SAQ) was approached by Design Hotels to aid in the creation of a proposal for an 80,000 sq. m. site comprised of 4 existing buildings and the addition of a 5th unifying building that could run throughout the complex composed of retail, hotel, cinema and office space. The project could not be a cut and paste of existing programmatic standards but instead had to integrate new concepts for retail, hotel and office space. This called for a heavily integrated team of experts for hotel (Design hotels), retail (Axel Weber and Partners), and architecture (UAU collectiv). UAU collectiv (SAQ) was responsible for the overall masterplan, the architecture as the realization of the interior of the common spaces. The realization on site is carried out by the Munich architectural firm Hild und K, which is specialised in construction work on existing buildings. Hild und K have combined the innovative design by UAU collective (SAQ) with the given conditions of the listed existing buildings and thereby made it feasible.

Thursday, February 13th, 2020

Article source: artytechs

Project is located on a Mtatsminda mountain that sharply divides the southeast boundary of Tbilisi and is the main dominant silhouette of the city. The mountain with its buildings has become a symbol of Tbilisi’s architectural and artistic kind. It is practically perceived from almost all districts of Tbilisi.

The idea of developing the Mtatsminda plateau first emerged at the end of the last century. At first, the construction of a country homes was intended, and later a proposal was made to build a “new city”. There was a project where the area was divided into neighborhoods and covered with streets. The construction of the funicular railway was made to further develop this idea. On the slopes of Mtatsminda around the Mamadaviti Church is a place of holiness for the Georgian people: “Pantheon of Writers and Public Figures”.

Article source: Zooco Estudio

The project embraces different proceedings in a hotel resort located in the southern area of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands.

In a 105500 sq ft. lot with an irregular topography that holds a tough slope from the north-east to the south-west of the plot, there is an ensemble of irregular terraced buildings that tend to disseminate and settle in the slope generating different platforms and levels with open spaces, buildings and terraces. We can distinguish five constructions that enclose more than 129000 sq ft. located in the perimeter of the plot, enclosing in the middle the leisure areas as the gardens and the swimming pools.

Can Bordoy -Grand House & Garden in Palma, Spain by OHLAB

Thursday, January 23rd, 2020

Article source: OHLAB

Can Bordoy -Grand House & Garden- is a small 24 room hotel with a magnificent garden, swimming pool, spa and panoramic terrace, located in La Lonja neighborhood, the heart of the historic center of Palma de Mallorca. It is a complete renovation of a 2,500 m2 abandoned building that had been heavily modified throughout its more than 500 years of history. Can Bordoy has been envisioned and developed by businessman Mikael Hall and his family. The architecture and interior design have been carried out by OHLAB, an office directed by the architects Paloma Hernaiz and Jaime Oliver.

One of the most distinctive elements of the property is its garden, not only because of its size in such a dense area of the city, nor for being La Lonja’s largest private garden, but because of the richness and antiquity of the existing vegetation – which includes spectacular hackberries, jacarandas and citrus trees among others- as well as for the sound of the birds that inhabit it. The garden, along with the inner courtyard of the house and the roof terrace with panoramic views over the city, adds up to a total of almost 1,000 m2 of outdoor space. One of the project’s most important interventions has been opening the doors of the garden, until now unknown by the vast majority, to the city and giving it visibility from the entrance courtyard and from the street. Thanks to the new use of the building you can now visit most of the garden through the open terrace of the restaurant.
