Located at the entrance of the industrial wasteland of the former VAW aluminum plants FORMSTELLE, Kantine and NETZWERK are creating an interdisciplinary, campus called NETWORK/NETZWERK – thus providing‚ evidence of a successful structural transformation from heavy industry towards the use by architects, engineers and designers. HOUSE B in Munich, Germany by FORMAT ELF ARCHITEKTEN

Thursday, July 9th, 2015

Article source: FORMAT ELF ARCHITEKTEN

Located in the urban outskirts of Munich, the detached single-family house B built in timber frame construction was completed after only six months of construction. On the small plot the maximal possible cubature and the existing parameters have been used in an optimal way. The building follows line of the houses in the street and thus continues the urban edge along the link road. The front garden area next to the street is thereby supported and the roof orientation of the surrounding buildings continued.

Hotel Indigo Helsinki Boulevard in Finland by Architects Soini&Horto Ltd

Wednesday, July 8th, 2015

Article source: Architects Soini&Horto Ltd

Hotel Indigo Boulevard is located in a historical boulevard in central Helsinki where the surrounding buildings have their origins from the the beginning of the 1800–‐1900s. The task was to transform the former office building into a modern hotel that would fit into the historical environment. The building went through an extensive renovation and only the concrete frame, built in the 60s, was preserved. The old pre–‐fabricated concrete façade was replaced with a new light construction wall. The boulevard facing  façade was clad with multidimensional zinc plating. The façade with its new insulaton makes the building very energy–‐ saving, consequently the hotel has been LEED–‐ classified.  Finnish design and local craftsmanship was used in hotel. The zinc façade was constructed by a 73–‐ year old local whitesmith Esko Kivi, who has been  in the business for 50 years.

Insertion of the project on the site. The implantation was designed as gentle as possible, in order to preserve the level difference of the site and the views. We created two side stone walls, like a programmatic box with the social and service areas of the house.

CRÈCHE DES ORTEAUX in Paris, France by Avenier Cornejo Architectes

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

Article source: Avenier Cornejo Architectes

The architectural firm, Avenier Cornejo, has just completed a crèche for 66 children in the 20th arrondissement of Paris. The crèche is located in the new Fréquel Fontarabie district, where the public pathway meets the square. It is a unique building which adds to the identity of the neighbourhood. Being one of the first places that children discover outside their own family unit, a crèche needs to provide a reassuring atmosphere where children can grow and prosper. The crèche is there both to protect children and help them discover the world around them.
