Holiday Home in Texel, Netherlands by Orange Architects

Sunday, July 18th, 2021

Article source: Orange Architects

Located on the beautiful Dutch island of Texel, Holiday Home is unlike any other residential villa. Instead of dividing the house into different spaces by walls, Orange Architects decided to divide spaces according to the specific use at any moment in time. Escaping from routine is quite literally built-in.

Holiday Home represents a different approach to space. By day, during a holiday, people tend to spend more time together and there’s less need for private spaces. With this in mind Rotterdam based firm Orange Architects optimized the house by maximizing all spaces inside, allowing most of them to accommodate two functions. By day the house transforms into an open, fluid space. Spaces extend even further, through large windows and opened doors, into the surroundings. By night, wooden panels in the hall can be closed by turning them 90 degrees and the continuous space breaks up into separate spaces. The bed becomes a full-size bedroom, while the hidden shower and sink turn into an en-suite bathroom. By allowing the interior to be transformed, the space inside is optimized, keeping it compact and efficient, avoiding unused rooms during the daytime.

Tuesday, July 13th, 2021

Article source: AMOO

The house is located on the first floor of a building built in 1925 in the Nova Esquerra de l’Eixample district, Barcelona. It has 4 doors per landing, thus transforming the typical typology of l’Eixample’s sequenced house into half floors.

The structure of the house is made up of load-bearing walls and is distributed around two patios, with partitions that leave a corridor on one side and small rooms on the other. It is accessible from one end and its main façade overlooks the block’s inner courtyard, where the dining room has taken over the old gallery, facing northeast. The total area is 60.48m².

Tuesday, July 13th, 2021

Article source: Sónia Cruz – Arquitectura

The house of S. Bartolomeu, is located in a central area of the city of Aveiro, bordering its historic center – Bairro Beira Mar. The street, which gives its name to the house, makes the transition between single-family dwellings of 2 floors – older, and 4-storey multi-family housing buildings – most recent.

Close to services, commerce, firefighters, school and local government, the surroundings express local characteristics in contact with contemporary materials and languages. In this situation, the building, which is a new intervention, replicates and reinterprets the characteristics of the place, through the rhythm of fenestration and coating materials.

HV House in São Paulo, Brazil by Studio Luiz Veneziano De Arquitetura

Sunday, July 11th, 2021

Article source: Studio Luiz Veneziano De Arquitetura

Located in a gated community in São José do Rio Preto (São Paulo, Brazil), this house is the result of the work carried out by Studio Luiz Veneziano de Arquitetura. The project sought to solve the challenges proposed by its future owner: an uncluttered program, no excesses, a low-maintenance house, but which also incorporates outdoor spaces, perhaps as a large terrace, where they could comfortably host friends and relatives – and all this within a limited budget. The proposal intelligently integrated the indoor spaces with exits to the outside part of the house, making the most of natural light and ventilation.

Central Area Backyard Cottage in Seattle, Washington by Fivedot

Sunday, July 11th, 2021

Article source: Fivedot

Located in Seattle’s Central Area neighborhood, this home is an L shaped plan that creates a courtyard accessible from both the living area and the bedroom. Large sliding glass doors allow the living area to ‘steal’ the outside and appear much larger than it actually is. The home is designed to be on one level, both for aging in place needs as well as to allow for higher ceilings which create a more spacious feel. As the entry is from the alley, Fivedot created an entry courtyard to extend and soften the entry sequence. The garage serves as an object implying the edge of the courtyard and creating an outdoor room as well as providing space for outdoor gear and the other parts of life that don’t fit into 800-square-feet.

House by the Lake in Poland by Atelier Starzak Strebicki

Saturday, July 10th, 2021

Article source: Atelier Starzak Strebicki

The design of the house was accompanied by the assumption to fully exploit the potential of the beautiful area bordering on the lake and to create a space that would harmoniously correspond with the surrounding landscape. The shared part of the house is made up of a room connected with a kitchen and a dining room with a window more than five meters wide, which gives the effect of a natural panorama of the nearby landscape changing according to the seasons of the year. The private part consists of four bedrooms with entrances to roofed terraces: one with direct access to the bathroom for permanent residents of the house and three guest bedrooms (possibility of obtaining two, thanks to the moving wall system between rooms). Besides the bathroom adjacent to the bedroom, there are two more in the house: one in the corridor between the bedrooms, the other in the entrance corridor.
