KLEO Art Residences in Chicago by JGMA

Wednesday, August 5th, 2020

Article source: JGMA

The KLEO Art Residences intentionally challenge norms in affordable housing construction by making natural light and quality of living the overriding priority in the project. The project represents the first time in Chicago’s history where polycarbonate panels represent the majority of the exterior envelope.

The building is one piece in a greater comprehensive strategy for reinvigorating the Washington Park community on Chicago’s South Side. The inspiration for the Art Residences project emerged from KLEO’s mission, Keep Loving Each Other, but most importantly by continuing the legacy of Kleo Y. Barrett, who was a victim of a domestic violence incident that took her life. Her name and legacy will continue to inspire the project and encourage families affected by domestic violence.

I Park in Montpellier, France by NBJ Architectes

Wednesday, August 5th, 2020

Article source: NBJ Architectes

Thought a process of dialogue with the city of Montpellier, the equipment company of the Montpelliéraine region, Jean Nouvel, chief architect of the ZAC and promoter Pragma, the housing building “I-Park” facing the new town hall of Montpellier, is a building of eight levels in variable layers.

Thought like a stratified and faceted monolith, the project constitutes an urban built front in its dividing line with the street. Adjoining the project site, a public park in continuity of Lez will offer unobstructed views of the river and its banks to housing. A landscape band allows a distance between public and private spaces.

The Matrix Apartments in Parramatta, Australia by Tony Owen Partners

Sunday, August 2nd, 2020

Article source: Tony Owen Partners

The site is located on a prominent corner in historic Parramatta in Sydney’s West. The surrounding buildings ranges from 2 to 18 storey apartment buildings, so this was very much an infill project. The 9 storey development contains ground floor retail and 32 units above totally some 4500m2. The massing fills in the corner and completes the streetscape. The streetscape on the ground floor is activated with retail uses. As the site is extremely tight it is impossible to achieve ramp access to the basement levels. A car loft is used for parking access. The design of the apartments has been influenced by the principles of passive solar design. The majority of units are either corner units, through units or have ventilation slots on the façade to maximise natural ventilation and minimise energy use. The façade lattice screen was originally intended as a structure for a green wall on the entire façade.

6 Houses in Cabrera de Mar, Spain by TWOBO

Monday, July 27th, 2020

Article source: TWOBO

The North face of the building holds the right balance of openings and colors to match the old-town style of Cabrera de Mar. It does so however with a composition that breathes new life into the neighborhood. This tone down contemporary language bursts out untethered towards the South side. Opened to the views and the sunlight, the concrete structure forms a grid that frames lodges and pergolas that stretch from the main building and protect the living spaces.

EDEN Singapore Apartments in Singapore by Heatherwick Studio

Wednesday, July 15th, 2020

Article source: Heatherwick Studio

Heatherwick Studio was commissioned by Swire Properties to design an apartment building in the historic Newton district of Singapore. Inspired by the vision of a ‘city in a garden’ imagined by Lee Kuan Yew fi fty years ago, and by the lush tropical setting of the area, the studio’s design is a radical departure from the glass and steel tower typology. The studio set out to craft homes within a garden that also harnessed all the benefi ts of apartment living; a place where residents would feel connected to the city’s tree-lined streets whilst enjoying views, light and privacy.
