Make Architects has completed work on its London Wall Place project, a new commercial scheme offering the largest set of public gardens developed in the City of London since the post-war brutalist Barbican estate on behalf of Brookfield Properties and Oxford Properties.
The scheme comprises two office buildings surrounded by extensive public realm including a series of public gardens and reimagined elevated pedestrian walkways to link the neighbouring Barbican with the City of London.
The Arbour proposes to be the hinge of the George Brown College Waterfront campus. The building links the School of Design, the Daphne Cockwell building, and upcoming Innovation Center while also serving as the gateway to future development. Located at the junction of the urban grid and nature’s grid, the Arbour interlaces both to boldly respond to the site’s conditions.
Cutting a diagonal across the site from top to bottom, the Arbour organizes itself around the available daylight on site. Inside, an escalating atrium serves as the extension of the public realm and brings light deep into the building’s floorplate. Around this core, a staggered truss system organizes the different spaces in an efficient and adjustable way. The trusses create resilient and generous spaces using mass timber construction.

Moors have always been mystical places full of secrets and drifting moods. The specific characteristic of such a genius loci served as the central design inspiration for noa*’s (network of architecture) project, which entailed the redesign and extension of the former “Moarhof” hotel at the end of the Valser valley, which is surrounded by moorland at about 1,300m altitude.
The result of this mystical transformation is the 4-star-S Hotel “Silena”. With its’ swamp-coloured, organically angular and integration into the landscape, it appears to be growing out of the unstable ground as a place of tranquillity, strength and soul, designed down to the smallest detail. The surrounding archaic nature as well as the southeast-asian touch of the interior and the extensive accompanying program, which was specially requested by the client, were the decisive factors for the final outcome.
