North Vancouver City Hall in Canada by MGA | MICHAEL GREEN ARCHITECTURE

Friday, May 5th, 2017

Article source: MGA | MICHAEL GREEN ARCHITECTURE

The City of North Vancouver’s 38,000 sq. ft. renovation project expanded the existing 1970’s modern heritage building into a recently vacated library structure, with a new bridging atrium. The design team’s goal was to create a very public building; about the community and for the community. The design is open and transparent. The main link between all departments and the public is found in the 67 metre (220 foot) long atrium space. The design creates a flexible, productive working environment for the diverse services offered to the public in the building, and reinforces the city’s aspirations to showcase their new sustainable city mandate.

Common Ground in Seoul, South Korea by URBANTAINER

Thursday, March 9th, 2017

Article source: URBANTAINER

Common Ground is the result of an experiment of revitalising unused land in the middle of the city. By applying prefab methods, e.g. producing modules in a factory, transporting them to the construction site and assembling them on-site, it was possible to reduce the construction time of the 5300 m2 building to five months.

In order to maximise the usage efficiency of the elongated rectangular shaped land, the architectural form is based on a center square connecting two buildings.

UniCredit Pavilion in Milano, Italy by architetto Michele De Lucchi Srl

Thursday, March 2nd, 2017

Article source: architetto Michele De Lucchi Srl

UniCredit has erected a multipurpose building to house the bank’s general meetings, but also exhibitions and cultural events open to the Milan public. It occupies a privileged position against the background of Porta Nuova, beneath the mirror-glazed tower and in a dialogue with the Porta Nuova public gardens. UniCredit Pavilion has no foundations, being constructed on a reinforced concrete podium above the parking facility. Its soft profile is inspired by the shape of a seed, and its materials are natural. A vertically ribbed cage with lamellar larch beams contains a glazed space and supports a rounded, solar panelled roof. The structure opens on the outside through two large wings, equipped with monitors for events open to the general public. Situated on the ground floor is a multipurpose auditorium adaptable to diverse configurations and with seating for 700. An overhead walkway runs along the outer edge of the building and can be used for temporary art exhibitions. On the first floor is a nursery for 50 toddlers, whilst the top level is occupied by a lounge for customer reception and corporate events.

Stadthalle Hall F in Vienna, Austria by Dietrich | Untertrifaller Architekten

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2017

Article source: Dietrich | Untertrifaller Architekten

The new Hall F is an ingenious addition to the previously less developed southeast side of the monumental complex of Wiener Stadthalle, creating impact even on its own. The concert, show, dance, fashion and even circus venue sits 2,000 spectators. Furthermore, congresses and conventions can be facilitated. Even though it is a particularly appealing urban location, the new edifice does not steal the spotlight from Roland Rainer’s hall, which was built half a century prior.

How can you make a motorway section attractive and functional for the local residents? This is the question MoederscheimMoonen Architects set to work on for the Municipality of Schiedam. They devised a unique solution for a stretch of the A4 motorway between the Dutch cities of Delft and Schiedam. The result is wonderful green park and a new sports location that will definitely appeal to the imagination. Located some six metres above the motorway, the sports fields are enclosed by one of the largest canvases in Europe.
