BBR HEADQUARTER in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by GIBERT&TAN

Thursday, April 21st, 2022

Article source: GIBERT&TAN

This 94,440 square-foot building, located in the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, consists of a three-story office space adjacent to a fully equipped warehouse respectively constructed of reinforced concrete and steel structure.

Gibert&Tan, who was tasked with designing this new office-slash-warehouse, decided that the only way to address the dichotomic qualities inherent to the design brief (almost irreconcilable in language and character), was to embrace them and specifically in their terms. Gibert opted for acceptance: “the decision to carry forward the pitched geometry of the warehouse to the office component implied a strong alternative to typical ‘boxes’ you often see in such context”, he says, alluding to the office unconventional asymmetric silhouette.

The alternation of transparency and opacity on the façade provides the double function of protection and perception of the external space.

A blade of glass and steel, resembling a prow pointing north-west, acts as the fulcrum of the Accenture People Hub building’s architectural composition, one of Accenture’s offices in Italy, a project by Park Associati for Milanofiori Sviluppo (Gruppo Brioschi Sviluppo Immobiliare). Folded Wings in Palo Alto, California by Form4 Architecture

Saturday, February 26th, 2022

Article source: Form4 Architecture

Named for its butterfly-inspired angular canopies that adorn the project’s exterior, Folded Wings is a speculative office campus designed by Form4 Architecture in the technology epicenter of Palo Alto, CA.  The first consequential design decision was to angle the typical office bar at mid-point of Building 1’s footprint.  This angle helps outline a welcoming, pedestrian-friendly urban plaza between the complex’s two structures.  The design’s lyrical intent is emphasized by a butterfly-form canopy that signals access to two levels of below-grade parking.  Folded Wings’ overall appearance yields a form of humane modernism at the scale of the pedestrian.  The design is counter to the typical notion of the Silicon Valley fortress campus where no one is allowed behind the gates.  This site is open to the public as well as to the rest of the business park.  Adjacent to walking and bike trails, the courtyard and park invite the local community to share the beauty.
