Kinetic Pergola by Brian Lee

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012

Article source: Brian Lee

Blurring the boundaries between architecture and furniture this work dissolves the abstract relationship between architectural form and the body into one of a more direct experiential correlation, questioning architecture as object and proposing an architecture where form is the result of action and use.

Deck over a roman site in Cartagena, Spain by Amann-Canovas-Mauri

Thursday, June 14th, 2012

Article source: Amann-Canovas-Mauri

The building is essentially a cover protecting the remains of a Roman assembly (thermal baths, forum and domus) in the archaeological site of Molinete Park in Cartagena, Spain.

This cover is certainly another piece in the historic area of Cartagena whose main architectural challenge is to reconcile very different architectures; from the roman time, passing through baroque to nowadays, making all the interventions vibrate together in the neighborhood. It is a transition element, between very diverse urban conditions: in size, material and structure; from the dense city centre to the sloping park.

Bab Al Bahrain in Manama by Leopold Banchini & Noura Al Sayeh

Tuesday, June 12th, 2012

Article source: Leopold Banchini & Noura Al Sayeh

One of the few existing public spaces in Bahrain, the Bab al Bahrain square has been progressively turned into no more than a roundabout traffic intersection, mainly dominated by the car. Still, due to its historical importance and its centrality within the island, it holds the potential to become a lively urban public space. Located at the entrance of the Suq it has the advantage of belonging to a tight urban structure which still benefits from a natural pedestrian network. Although it was once located a stone’s throw away from the sea, the square is today physically separated from it due to the ongoing land reclamation projects which have taken place since the 1950s.

Porosis Pavilion in Belgrade, Serbia by Studio Méta-

Friday, June 8th, 2012

Article source: Studio Méta-

Porosis Pavilion is a temporary mobile pavilion located in Belgrade, Serbia. The space of pavilion is inspired by the porous condition of bone. Bone consists of cellular structure in voronoi system which is rigid and stable. The pavilion allows experiencing the porosity through the combination between the space and the structure.  The density of voronoi structure defines space for the temporary exhibition, as it is denser in the enclosed back space of the pavilion and opens up towards the front with less dense structure. The structure itself defines the facade aesthetic of the pavilion.

Twin Trees Pavilion by Atelier Archmixing  Shanghai based Atelier Archmixing has recently changed a former pigpen into a cozy pavilion in a small traditional town located in Yangtze Delta area. It is a supplement for two traditional style residences, providing an extra place for meeting and recreation, just nearby a hill planted with orange trees.  Two big trees, a 20-year-old neem and a 15-year-old orange dominate the site and lend inspiration to the design as well as the name.

Article source: Bleds-Design

The expo pavilion is a complex problem of displaying the future of technology, culture, and life with today’s capabilities. To take a look forward and to examine not only what is on display but the aperture that holds that promise of a better city, better life.  In the long tradition of Expo innovations, the Shadow Pavilion pushes today’s ideas of formation and structure to the next step; by looking at complex organizations and the integration of the two ideas.

Sky Light Pavilion by Nimbu

Saturday, May 12th, 2012

Article source: Nimbu

The conception of an architecture pavilion that is universal, timeless and spaceless shouldn’t be connected with the idea of conceiving a meaningless construction. Instead, an architecture pavilion that intent to be contemporary should be a construction that pursuit the architecture itself. Finnish architect Juhani Pallasmaa says that the renewal of an art, whatever it may be, means rediscovering its deepest essence, and that architecture is a direct expression of the existence, of the human presence in the world.
