Culture must be understood as an action and communication space, a circulation place, consequently this year (2019), the initiative “México Territorio Creativo (MXTC)” is presented. It´s objective is to foster, as it has been doing for 11 years through its platform “Design Week México”, design and architecture potential as a change agent, as a tool for facing global challenges and generating solutions to improve the quality of life of our communities.
Continuously, since 2013 remarkable national and international architects have been invited by MXTC, to create pavilions that generate different critical/esthetical questionings around our actual situation, it has turned into a platform for experimental projects from some of the best architects in the world. This year, MXTC presents Gerardo Boissin´s Egaligilo Pavilion.

The project´s target was to create a space for the community development through farming and selling organic foods reason why the project is divided in three areas: urban garden, classrooms and commercial pavilion.
A bold architectural statement at the heart of new Amsterdam innovation district Cumulus Park in the up-and-coming Zuidoost area, The Traveller is a curvilinear glass pavilion designed by Powerhouse Company and developed by EDGE and G&S Vastgoed, in collaboration with ING. It helps to define the neighborhood by bringing together ING employees, students, entrepreneurs, the local community and visitors for food and fun.
Strikingly transparent and with a welcoming organic form, The Traveller fits in beautifully with the green landscaped grounds (to be completed in early 2020) and surrounding buildings, notably the new ING offices designed by Benthem Crouwel Architects. It houses a restaurant concept from the team behind successful Amsterdam eateries Visaandeschelde and The Roast Room. The restaurant is open all day, offering light refreshments and a full menu of international dishes reflecting the neighborhood’s multicultural identity. There are versatile spaces for meetings and events upstairs.
Studio Studio Studio, the new interdisciplinary lab founded by Edoardo Tresoldi, presents Gharfa: an experiential pavilion installation within the temporary creative project “Diriyah Oasis”, designed and curated by Dubai-based studio Designlab Experience, and located in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh.
This project, commissioned by the Diriyah Season Committee, is situated in close proximity to the At-Turaif District; a UNESCO World Heritage Site about to undergo a major developmental upgrade that includes the opening of a plethora of museums and cultural institutions. Furthermore, this entire initiative is taking place in a period of major changes for the country, which has only just opened its doors to international tourists for the first time last September.
Designed by LWK + PARTNERS, Spiritual Bay in Qingdao recently opens. Just 120 metres off the Yellow Sea coast, the project is endowed with perks of nature at Guzhenkou’s Lingxi Bay near the intersection of Yingshanhong Road and Haijun Road, enjoying distant views of the Dazhushan Scenic Area.
The three-storey pavilion is a mixed-use architecture which also houses food and beverage component to fulfil the needs of users and create a highlight at the northeast of the master plan. To maximise use of land, the base structure spreads over the whole site; as the building progresses upwards, it elegantly tilts by 27 degrees giving the second and third floors splendid sea views.
The Qiyun Mountain Camp is a large natural adventure and extreme sport park in China. It is located by the Qiyun Mountain, a beautiful natural and sacred site as the birthplace of Taoism and the yin and yang symbol. We designed all the public services within the pristine natural setting of the park. Shipping containers are cut on a bias to generate the base units of the various buildings. They are joined, mirrored, tilted and recombined to fit the several programs and to make up new typologies. Three different areas are carefully inserted in the landscape considering the varying topography and are color-coded to create detectible landmarks within the natural setting.
As a “living memorial” for President John F. Kennedy, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts takes an active position among the great presidential monuments in Washington, D.C. Through public events and stimulating art, the Kennedy Center offers a place where the community can engage and interact with artists across the full spectrum of the creative process. The REACH expansion, designed by Steven Holl Architects, adds much-needed rehearsal, education, and a range of flexible indoor and outdoor spaces to allow the Kennedy Center to continue to play a leadership role in providing artistic, cultural, and enrichment opportunities.
The design for The REACH merges architecture with the landscape to expand the dimensions of a living memorial. The landscape design includes a narrative reflection on the life of President Kennedy: a grove of 35 gingko trees, which will drop their golden autumn leaves in late November, acknowledges John F. Kennedy’s position as the 35th President of the United States; and a reflecting pool and mahogany landscape deck are built in the same dimensions and mahogany boards of Kennedy’s WWII boat, the PT109.
Scenic Architecture designed a series of buildings for public services in the Runway Park, which was renovated from 100-year old Longhua airport located at the west bank of Huangpu River, Shanghai. This project is a concentrated part of the whole series with three buildings including a community pavilion, a coffee shop, and a restaurant.
The pavilion 2 spaces 2 moments is the duality in which the outer space, the large scale space on everyone’s sight, captures the attention of pedestrians with a powerful yet small light threshold, inviting them to discover what is beyond, creating the first moment. The inner space is the second moment of the experience. Inside this small and quiet place made by a geometrical complex surface formed with more than 60 triangle pieces and 1,800 joints, 2 facing mirrors highlight the perspective inside the pavilion, while color and different kinds of lighting nurture this experience and create an endless loop of the inner space. The serenity of the pavilion contrast with the dynamics of geometry, perspective and fullness of color.
