K- House in Konin, Poland by STOPROCENT Architekci

Thursday, December 23rd, 2021

Article source: STOPROCENT Architekci

House K is one of our projects that had waited the longest for its construction. We started working on it in 2012, yet the house has just been finished in 2021.

In the meantime, the project and the construction have encountered some adventures. The original concept assumed that the building would be part of a larger complex, which was intended to be a multigenerational family residence. Later the client has decided to move her house to another, much more attractive location. When we started working on the necessary adjustments to the project, the site had a virgin appearance, partly overgrown with a forest, gently sloping into the valley of a nearby river. When the house was finally completed, the neighborhood became significantly more developed and populated.

Xingu House in Nova Lima, Brazil by Tetro Arquitetura

Wednesday, September 8th, 2021

Article source: Tetro Arquitetura

This work, located in Nova Lima a Brazilian city in the state of Minas Gerais, is now under construction. It is inserted in a huge and complex 8.000 square meters land, with stone walls remaining from an old construction, native forest, grassy plateaus and spectacular views of the mountains. There is also a grotto, which will be incorporated into the new building program.

The project is the result of an extensive research on design that sough a response to all of these site characteristics. The new elements were implemented as shiny pieces that contrast with the rusticity of the walls and existing nature on the grounds. Nature incorporates itself into the house in a poetic way, through the dilution of the boundaries between interior and exterior.

Article source: Yoshitaka Uchino

Located in a crowded shopping area in Tokyo, a simple white volume has been placed for two generations of a family. A void which functions as a terrace in second floor penetrates the volume, providing natural light and fresh air to the whole space.

The terrace is “Void of the light”, creating a small universe around this void of the light.

The building has two stories, and areas are clearly articulated. The spaces for elderly couple are placed in first floor, and the younger family are in the second. Public space in first floor has inner void which induces natural light and air from the void of the light which adjoins the inner void.

Holiday Home in Texel, Netherlands by Orange Architects

Sunday, July 18th, 2021

Article source: Orange Architects

Located on the beautiful Dutch island of Texel, Holiday Home is unlike any other residential villa. Instead of dividing the house into different spaces by walls, Orange Architects decided to divide spaces according to the specific use at any moment in time. Escaping from routine is quite literally built-in.

Holiday Home represents a different approach to space. By day, during a holiday, people tend to spend more time together and there’s less need for private spaces. With this in mind Rotterdam based firm Orange Architects optimized the house by maximizing all spaces inside, allowing most of them to accommodate two functions. By day the house transforms into an open, fluid space. Spaces extend even further, through large windows and opened doors, into the surroundings. By night, wooden panels in the hall can be closed by turning them 90 degrees and the continuous space breaks up into separate spaces. The bed becomes a full-size bedroom, while the hidden shower and sink turn into an en-suite bathroom. By allowing the interior to be transformed, the space inside is optimized, keeping it compact and efficient, avoiding unused rooms during the daytime.

Article source: naturehumaine

The project is located on a steep lot on the shores of Lake Memphremagog, not far from the Franciscan monks’ abbey in St-Benoit-du-Lac.

The clients wish to create on this large wooded lot, a living space that reflects their image: dynamic, welcoming and friendly. They see their home as a contemporary and warm place for meetings with friends.

Access to the land is overhanging the house by a path going down to the lake. This bird’s eye view gives visual importance to the geometry of the roof.

Villa in Vlastibořice, Czech Republic by SIAL

Thursday, June 24th, 2021

Article source: SIAL

The beautiful site slopes to the southwest and is part of a slightly undulating landscape of the “Bohemian Paradise” territory. The plot offers amazing views of the opposite side of the valley. Due to the fact that the plot is located outside the built-up area, it offered a unique opportunity to realize a solitary villa with an extraordinary interconnection between indoor and outdoor space.

The client’s wish was to create simple, clean spaces with maximum use of natural materials.

Highcountry House in Washington by CTA Design Builders

Monday, June 21st, 2021

Article source: CTA Design Builders

Perched like a lookout on a sagebrush plateau with sweeping views of the high desert and big river cutting through it below, this contemporary three-bedroom getaway home is a serene retreat allowing the focus to be entirely on this breathtaking landscape. CTA Design Builders’ goal was to design a comfortable family-sized retreat that didn’t call too much attention to itself, but rather could sit low and quiet, and let the focus be on the views and weather all around. Because of constant winds, the house and out-buildings have been arranged in a U-shape to create a south facing sheltered patio, complete with pool, oriented to frame the best of all the views. This is a modest-sized vacation home designed for a multigenerational family. Its main space with lofty ceilings brings everyone together in the heart of the home cooking, eating, hanging out. The big-view wall of glass opens completely to the outside patio and pool below, creating a seamless inside/outside connection that is breath-taking in every season, every day and star-filled night. Other smaller windows throughout the house are placed with restraint, carefully positioned to afford a special private view as if looking at a landscape painting.

Haus am See in Potsdam, Germany by Carlos Zwick Architekten BDA

Sunday, June 20th, 2021

Article source: Carlos Zwick Architekten BDA

Thousands of excursionists used to enjoy homemade ice cream and lemonade on this historic lakeside property in Potsdam until the old park cafe there closed its doors. 25 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Berlin-based architect Carlos Zwick fell in love with the overgrown property. He bought it, including dilapidated monuments, without a building permit, but with a vision: a family place was to be built here, a house that would uncompromisingly engage with the essential elements of the surrounding nature. Ancient trees, water and the nature preserved emperor terraces – given the name due to the fact that the emperor actually enjoyed drinking his coffee here in the past – determined the architectural concept. Today, the passive house stands on 40 diagonal iron stilts whose 10 individual foundations respectfully touch the emperor’s terraces only at specific points. A steel grid supports the wooden floors, walls and ceilings. The ecological balance is in place – this is ensured by the sustainable building materials as well as the solar thermal system on the roof.
