All around you can still feel the old farm fields, but this is still a very urban house.
The owners inherited the land from their grandparents and decided to build this house on it. A ground floor (or predo minantly ground floor) house that accomplishes the family´s desires.
The parcel, with little depth, extends slowly along the street, almost disappearing around the curve.
“Casa no Crato” was designed for a couple who loves nature and silence and that was looking for a retreat place, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is located at the upper part of Alentejo region, in Portugal, on a property of about 70 hectares, where oaks, holm oaks, cork oaks and common brooms populate the various hills and create an idyllic landscape. A small flowing watercourse crosses the entire terrain, giving rise to a lagoon that serves as a refreshment point for grazing animals.
The volumes develop perpendicularly to the road, facing south. They land along the natural slope of the land, the garage, with only one floor, finishes the volumetry.
The house basis begins as a wall, then surrounds the main volume and finally, again as a wall embraces the garage, giving a sense of continuity.
“They were there. It was their home…They gave us permission. Suddenly, you feel the birds, the shadows protecting you, the light dancing, aroma of nature, sound of leaves and wind.
The soft heartwood is the beginning, you will enjoy it, it will guide your way, you will travel upon it, you will enter their leaves and walk on them, climb on them, till you reach the top.”
1A Pervomayskaya is a centrally located quarter in Tyumen, featuring apartments, business premises, and public space. The project is based in the old city centre, where theatres, museums, shopping malls, business centres, and 19th-century historical monuments are in the immediate vicinity. Despite its central location, it was long a dead-end plot, abutting onto a development site and thus breaking up the street.
CLIENT BRIEF: The client was a young entrepreneur who wanted a house where she could completely relax and feel at home. The client had no design constraints nor any personal impositions. This bold hued and highly-textural house has the impressions of freedom and containment; of shelter and openness.

This unique house extends over an area of 240 square meters, and has become a home to a father and son who live side by side. The two decided to move from the city of Jerusalem to build a home in the vibrant city of Tel Aviv.

It is rare to encounter an Israeli-built house that looks as if it was taken from the cover of one of the world’s most prestigious magazines. The house, planned by interior designer Keren Niv-Toledano in a village in the center of Israel, exactly fulfills that definition thanks to experiential living spaces in which attention has been paid to every detail, combining perfect functionality and visuality of exceptional quality – a perfect balance of masses and dimensions that exist together harmoniously.
