Kleine Rittergasse 11 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany by Franken Architekten

Tuesday, January 17th, 2017

Article source: Franken Architekten

Good architecture takes its environment into account, particularly surrounding buildings. In Frankfurt am Main, Franken Architekten has taken a literal approach through a digitally drawn façade for a new home and studio in old town Sachsenhausen.

Frankfurt’s Alt-Sachsenhausen is a neighborhood that, according to the city, urgently needed to change. Until the 1990s, traditional cider houses dominated the area valued for its entertainment and nightlife, but it was heavily run down in recent years. The city created a preservation statute that placed premiums on the conversion of the gastronomy establishments to housing and other uses. A small scene of art galleries, ad agencies, and fashion and designers shops sprung up in the area, leading some people to call the district SoMa (South of Main), inspired by New York’s famous SoHo (South of Houston) area.

A Studio in Bassano del Grappa, Italy by Studio di Architettura Claude Petarlin

Thursday, January 5th, 2017

Article source: Studio di Architettura Claude Petarlin

The studio was designed starting from the conviction that the rooms were to be designed as boxes, composed in turn by sides and surfaces, evocative from a figurative point of view. Two coloured backdrops were in fact made with shades of blue and sage green, on the other side a wall-moodboard with the notes and suggestions of the projects which are work in process. The presence of the old stone portal was resolved by keeping the traces of the old paint, as opposed to the perfection of the bottom of the wall. The old Venetian floorings and the geometric fishbone pattern of the wooden parquet were preserved and enhanced. The furniture arrangement was designed keeping in mind the functional distances and movements in the studio, with a division between the functional and the more operative spaces and the formal  reception rooms.

B.L.U.E. Architecture Studio PJ in Beijing, China

Sunday, December 11th, 2016

Article source: B.L.U.E. Architecture Studio

B.L.U.E. Architecture Studio is an office that fully takes the advantage of natural environment. We renovated the second level of this red brick building which used to be a residential building for an old factory. We used a wall that’s made of red bricks to separate office and meeting room into 2 semi-‐closed space. The circle opening on the wall not only takes away the intense feeling generated by eye contact, but also makes the act of passing items more convenient.

We designed an area for both exhibition and storage on the entire interior wall; and a liner light bulb at top of the wall that knits the whole space into one unit.
