LRC parking in Utrecht, The Netherlands by Shift architecture urbanism

Tuesday, July 4th, 2017

Article source: Shift architecture urbanism

The assignment called for a public building that transcends its function as a parking garage and whose representation fits its strategic position in the classically designed centre of Leidsche Rijn. We propose an understated icon that interprets the classic urban principles in a contemporary way and integrates new public uses in order to shape the civic space of the new centre.

Article source: BAG arquitectura

The building lies on a 507m2 ground, nearly at the center of which grows a mesquite tree that was preserved within the building. Because of this, the entire layout of the house gravitates around the tree, thus making it into the foremost element within the intents of this architectural project, and greatly  enriching it.

Porta Nuova Building Milano, Italy by piuarch

Sunday, June 18th, 2017

Article source: piuarch

Like some sort of sinuous, white wave, the Porta Nuova Building fits in with the master plan for the urban redevelopment of the old railway station in Porta Nuova, Milan, situated between Corso Como, Garibaldi Station, the Isola neighbourhood and Piazza della Repubblica. This huge structure extends over a distance of 140 metres to create a structure covering a total of 16,500 m² designed for holding offices and shops. This powerful and, at the same time, lightweight, white coloured, glazed building serves a fundamental “urban purpose”: it hinges together the existing city and the latest dynamics triggered off by the entire Porta Nuova project, falling in line with the heights of the old buildings and embracing the square that is set higher level than the surrounding roads.

Urla Atatürk Primary School in İzmir, Turkey by Mert Uslu Architecture

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2017

Article source: Mert Uslu Architecture

The structure, which maintains its continuity in the linear architecture, is aimed to create a space open to the active use of students and teachers by means of the large courtyard formed in the south by leaning to the northern edge of the land. The climatic characteristics of Urla have been taken into consideration and applications for planting have been foreseen in the sections facing the south pavement. However, such a study of the south pavement by the practitioner has not yet been carried out. It was aimed to break the monotonous inside and outside on the whole of the design by creating the level differences between the buildings and thus a dynamic composition was captured in the building which is a school. The structure in the physical environment in which it stands out in pure geometrical form is exhibiting a naive temperament in Urla’s traditional heritage.
