Kaohsiung Waterfront in Taiwan by Jvantspijker Urbanism Architecture

Thursday, February 14th, 2013

Article source: Jvantspijker Urbanism Architecture

The Kaohsiung Waterfront is being made accessible to the city and its inhabitants due to the departure of navy and industrial functions. The project proposes a strategy for waterfront redevelopment by integrating the natural beauty of the adjacent forested mountain, a low density residential/leisure oriented program and heavy central business district program in balance.

Villa Řitka in Czech Republic by Studio pha

Tuesday, February 5th, 2013

Article source: Studio pha

The basic idea is a kind of enclosure of the building in and on itself, and the use of the sloping ground to divide the building into a two-storey main residential part on the upper part of the land and a lower building containing the garages and entrance hall further down the slope. The result is essentially a two-storey house with a flat roof, positioned atop the concrete “retaining wall” of the lower structure. The house’s plan is of “U”-shape, or equally it could be described as a rectangle with an interior atrium open on one side to the surrounding landscape. Inside the atrium is a small pool, which ensures for this space pleasant cooling, reinforced by the system of louvered blinds against the sun.

Residential Housing 26 units in Obhur, Saudi Arabia by Dom Arquitectura

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013

Article source: Dom Arquitectura

The aim is to project 26 houses in the Obhur area. The client wanted to use the same isolated unit type, but generate differences in the street facade to avoid the traditional house complex with all the same.

Recalling the Islamic markets, we remind the Arabic spices image, located in the same container but with different color shades. Natural tones that would fit perfectly into our idea.

Casa AV Summer House in Mar Azul, Argentina by BAK Architectos

Friday, January 11th, 2013

Article source: BAK Architectos

This work is the result of a process that began in 2004 with the construction of a summer house in the forest of Mar Azul.

It was about intervening in an area of outstanding natural beauty, owner of a wild strong presence that gradually has been domesticated by the proliferation of constructions with a formal search between a bucolic character and picturesqueness which in no way refer to that environment nor to this present.

Concrete House in Mar Azul, Argentina by BESONIAS ALMEIDA arquitectos.

Thursday, January 10th, 2013

Article source: BESONIAS ALMEIDA arquitectos.

We propose choices which guarantee the survival of the natural environment.

Mar Azul is a place well-known for us from time ago, so when we built our first work in 2004, we knew that we have to intervene a land that, despite of its worthy landscape, had never count with a legal support that protect this patrimony of those which built with a unique aim: get the most out of the earth. This land neither count with a code that, understanding the logic of this privileged space, regulate resolving the difference between this inappropriate constructions and the possibility of building without losing the properties of the site. In addition to this situation, the habit of building “picturesque houses in a place of fantasy” is taming slowly the forest, which is nowadays owner of a strong wild presence.

St. Horto in Rome, Italy by OFL Architecture

Thursday, January 3rd, 2013

Article source: OFL Architecture

The project stems from the idea of creating a perfect synergy between architecture, nature and social technologies Jardimpu (Arduino and Paraimpu).

The name “St. Horto” is a pun, between Italian and English language. The two words “Horto” and “St” give at the same time the idea of a sacred, intimate garden and of something crooked, apparently disordered but full of life, just like a plant. Together they represent the irregular geometry (crooked or oblique) but highly controlled architectural design of the garden.
