Casa del Lago is a detached house located within a real estate development where all its lots adjoin a water body in their backyards.

The users are a multicultural couple of mature adults. The objective of the project was that the house will take advantage of the characteristics of the complex and that the open spaces will be part of the dynamics of daily use. Likewise, the house should remember the Yucatecan culture and have the capacity to house the collection of objects of artistic and / or emotional value of the owners.

Foothill House in Bangkok, Thailand by SS:AR

Thursday, September 5th, 2019

Article source: SS:AR

Chiang Mai is a town in the north of Thailand with strong traditions of arts and handicrafts that have been passed down for generations. Brick was a common construction material for the city’s numerous ancient temples and historic buildings but is often neglected in the current architectural design. In addition to the unique Lanna style of Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is also a vibrant contemporary city, with young artistic communities and art galleries.

Located in Chiang Mai, the overall layout of Foothill House takes inspiration from the spatial arrangement of traditional Thai houses where kitchen and services, living room, guest bedrooms, and owner’s bedroom are separated into several units, resulting in a group of buildings connected via an outdoor communal area.

VILLA N in Arezzo, Italy by ARCHITETTURA MATASSONI

Wednesday, September 4th, 2019

Article source: ARCHITETTURA MATASSONI

Given the low quality of the surrounding urban fabric and its proximity, Villa N has been endowed with a rather introverted character.

A limiting element that, as often happens, has then become the starting point for establishing the main organizational strategy of the project; it is based on a central lung that should have guaranteed a large breath to the living area, despite this initial condition of compression.

This large and three-level space has been closed and only partially covered; it was carefully defined so as to be perceived as a “collector” into which the interior spaces flow without detachment.

Andermatt Concert Hall

BESIX and the Andermatt Swiss Alps Development is transforming the traditional Swiss Alpine village of Andermatt into one of the world’s finest year-round destinations; boasting some of the best alpine and off-piste skiing facilities in Europe and fast becoming one of Switzerland’s largest resorts.

Andermatt is a mountain village and municipality in the canton of Uri in Switzerland. At an altitude of 1437 meters above sea level, Andermatt is located at the centre of the Saint-Gotthard Massif and the historical centre cross of north-south and east-west traverses of Switzerland. In the early 2000s, after a period of decline, Andermatt started growing again as a valid alternative to the famous ski resort destinations such as St Moritz and Gstaad. This new beginning brought in the area the need for new facilities to remark its role of new attraction pole in Swiss tourism.

Andermatt’s new village square will host multiple hotels, residential and chalet facilities, and as part of this new development, Studio Seilern Architects was asked to provide a world-class concert facility to be located at its heart.

Municipality of Suleymanpasa in Tekirdağ, Turkey by MANÇO ARCHITECTS Inc.

Monday, September 2nd, 2019

Article source: MANÇO ARCHITECTS Inc.

When viewed from the sky it is noticed that the green tissue cuts through building islands and reaches the shore in the east of the center of Tekirdag, a city in Thrace region of Turkey surrounded by agricultural land on the north and Marmara Sea on the south. The competition plot is located right next to this intersection where the urban meets the rural. There the sloping topography is sliced with retaining walls reaching 14m height on the northern corner of the plot, in order to create a bus station on the same level with the avenue. The thought that emerged in response to those walls bordering the green and built areas has been the starting point of the architectural design: “Eliminating the walls of the dam so that the buildings from one side and the greenery from the other mix and flow toward the street level; recreating the destroyed part of the topography with the emerging hybrid tectonic pile.”

The functions of the building program were solved as floors with differing sizes stacked on top of the other according to parameters such as, the level of connection with the street, interrelations among the municipality units and load bearing structure concerns. The building mass was shaped as cascades parallel to the retaining walls, in order to refer to the slope of the topography.

C3 Bank Headquarters in California by Brett Farrow Architect

Friday, August 30th, 2019

Article source: Brett Farrow Architect

Brett Farrow Architect has designed the new headquarters for C3 Bancorp in the Southern California coastal community of Encinitas.

The locally owned bank was designed as a combination retail branch, corporate offices and semi-civic space.  Facing directly onto Coast Highway 101, the building uses custom white concrete to echo the nearby coastal bluffs while large operable glass areas create a transparent connection between the interior work spaces and lushly planted courtyards and atrium.

Marine grade stainless steel cladding was custom tinted and combined with western red cedar at the ceilings and eaves.

Article source: Landa + Martínez Arquitectos

Albia is a twenty-floor office building located on a property between Antonio L. Rodriguez and Blvd. Gustavo Díaz Ordaz, two high-velocity avenues in the west of Monterrey. Its structure is composed of visible concrete frames that are expressed on the facade as vertical mullions. The offices are located in a reflective glass volume, with a north-south orientation, on a quadruple height base.

The lower part of the building is divided into three glass volumes separated by large voids. The access passes through the voids to the lobby in the central volume. The other two volumes, also connected by bridges on the third level, house shops on the ground floor and two levels of offices.
