The project aims to recover and integrate an old site, already used as an orphanage, built on a portion of a hilly area next to the old historical centre of San Miniato. The “CASA VERDE” project, so called because of his historically/social value (CASA / home / orphanage – VERDE / Green / built in a forest of holm oaks), is a search to find links:
In 1976 architects Jean and Veronique Boland-Springal designed and built a row house for themselves in the sleeping quarters in Brussels. Even though owners changed several times and the building went through several maintenances, main spaces and architecture stayed the same. The dwelling is organized into 6 levels, which creates compelling spaces, engaging perspectives and connects street and inner-courtyard on different levels. Building framework is from monolithic concrete columns and slabs and is compressed in a 5m gap between masonry brick walls. Bay windows with an open concrete structure framework are duplicated in the interior spaces. Meanwhile, the captured representation was oppressing – everything was painted in various colors and enclosed with diverse materials, which were physically and morally worn out.

The project arises from the desire of the customer – a multinational plastic injection molding company – to adapt the image of its current office building to the corporate identity and entity of the company at the present moment, where it has positioned itself as an international benchmark in the sector under the premise of “passion and innovation in plastics”, at the forefront in design and the most advanced technologies without abandoning their origins of artisan work and exhaustive care of the product.
The winery program is the result of the need to produce wine and organize a relationship with the existing land house. There are four main spaces for the wine production with three more areas between them. These three are service spaces with all the facilities and storage. The first main space in the right, next to the laboratories and freezers, is the one for all the farming instruments and tools for the vineyards. The second one is for all the vats needed for the “mosto wine” production. The third one is for those vats and bottles that are resting. The last one, and forth, is the area for tastings, enjoyment and storage of the bottles that are ready to be open. The access through a tunnel from the upper side of the house serves as organizer for the circulation of the owners. The three remaining service areas are accessed directly from the vineyards.
The first phase of the western extension of the Helsinki metropolitan area subway line, the West Metro – in use since November 18, 2017 – connects Ruoholahti, Helsinki to Matinkylä, Espoo. The West Metro will service over 170,000 passengers per day. The objective that has been set for the architecture of the eight new stations along the first, and the five new stations along the second phase of the extension is to create distinctive, location-specific identities for them on both urban and interior scale. At the same time the metro will act as a link between the various urban centers of the City of Espoo and in a way create its new backbone.
The Stack House is essentially a stack of blocks. Solid blocks of private spaces are stacked in an open, laced pattern to form voids for shared living space. The blocks are positioned in response to the urban and natural setting in relation to the site. The result is an open, two-story void of shared space that is simultaneously protected for privacy and immersed in its natural surroundings. Contrasting materials express this stacking and shifting on the exterior. Inside, the blocks are carefully carved with curves and surfaced in white oak to shape more intimate spaces to join a family together to share a meal, to recline, read and take in the majestic oak outside, or to play the piano and fill the void with music.
The project consists of a renovation of a historic mansion in Leuven (Belgium) of which the main focus is enhancing life quality and reorganizing living on the ground floor. A new extension is realized, supported by steel trusses, a sort of lightfilled city-cabin. In the historic mansion furniture is introduced in the existing carriage-corridor, as a way of mediation with the oversized corridor and practical organization of a few smaller functions in to a dense cluster.
This single-family house, located on Oak Avenue in Quebec-city, brings a new breath in the neighborhood of Sillery in Quebec city. The challenge was to design a modern and minimalist home that blends into the residential context while maximizing intimity and proximity. The architect’s response was a L-shaped house within it’s suroundings. Located in a very green environnement, the architects have choosen natural materials like stained natural wood, dark bricks and steel that are in echo with the neighborhood materials and with the nature present in the courtyard.
Tucked away on the south side of Hong Kong island and hidden amongst the hectic industrial buildings is the latest haven designed by Lim+Lu. Designed for a multi-talented animal-loving couple, whose hobbies include hosting painting and baking workshops, this abode offers the dwellers plenty of space for their activities as well as roaming space for their five pets.
Subsequent to delivering staff housing and reception building in 2013, this autumn the Hellin-Sebbag Architectes Associés office completed the second phase of the reconstruction of this building trades high school.
The architect’s appointment comprised different scales – from urban space to furniture.
