At San George, Amsterdam’s latest hot spot, graphic patterns and bold colors take the well known George bistro style to a glamourous new level. The restaurant is in the former entrance area of the AMJV (the Dutch equivalent of the YMCA). This renovation and addition to an existing Victorian home in inner bayside Melbourne responds to the changing needs of an active, growing family and creates flexible and relaxed spaces for them to inhabit for many years to come. This project includes renovation to the existing historical building and the addition of a double storey extension to create a multi-zoned family home. Aesthetically, the new building was to remind them subtly of family holidays to the beach.

Set in what was originally a mechanics workshop, 119 Howard st, North Melbourne is the next chapter in Joseph Haddad’s Melbourne coffee empire. The space is a warm tonal interplay of existing spatial elements with natural light and materiality, and uses residential references to create an environment that is a ’home away from home’.

In a tiny, odd-shaped site, with a lot of code restrictions and a tight budget, Design Initiatives successfully created a functional floor layout scheme with a garage, kitchen, dining, living areas and a full bathroom.
A major alteration and extension to an existing Victorian heritage home in Armadale, Melbourne. Our clients, a professional builder and his family called for an elegant and striking contemporary design solution to transform this compact double fronted Victorian style house into a generous family home.
We chose to preserve the old building with its fine plastered walls and contrast this by adding a single element, – an element which is entirely covered with the same material of black anodized aluminium.
