Vijverweg Bloemendaal – 8 luxury apartments in Amsterdam, The Netherlands by vanOmmeren-architecten

Tuesday, January 7th, 2020

Article source: vanOmmeren-architecten

VanOmmeren-architecten won the tender for the redevelopment of the Vijverkerk plot (Bloemendaal, NL) commissioned by Wibaut.

A design for a three story dwelling building was proposed. In close collaboration with the neighborhood and the client an integrated design for 8 luxury apartments is made.

The relationship between inside and outside of the dwelling is directly inspired by the typology of villas in the neighbourhood. These houses are typically accessed from the side of the building, while parking is behind. Therefore the street façade is representative, free of parking, while remaining a green character. The ground floor dwellings offer a garden. Dwellings on the first floor accommodate a loggia, and the top floor dwellings offer a roof terrace. This composition diminishes volume when gaining height, while opening up space for urban green.

West Point Convenience Center in Zapopan, Mexico by LEAP Laboratorio en Arquitectura Progresiva

Sunday, December 8th, 2019

Article source: LEAP Laboratorio en Arquitectura Progresiva

West Point Convenience Center is a retail venue and the most visible component of a mixed use development located on the westside of Guadalajara. The master plan of the complex is comprised of eight high-rise vertical housing buildings in a gated community with inner pedestrian walkways, a park and controlled access points. The retail venue, although it is an integral part of the master plan, is at the forefront of the complex outside the gated community and with large green areas on both sides of the building. The preeminent location of the building within the master plan and its relationship with the public avenue demands an architectural approach to give the building an iconic presence. It is important to highlight that the Convenience Center will be also a focal point from the views of the eight apartment buildings on the background, and therefore the design of the roof was as important as the design of the main facades at street level. The result is a triangular faceted architectural object with two wide openings at each end where the second level restaurants are located and a screen that randomly becomes more transparent towards the center of the building. The complexity of the geometry of this element contrast with the seemingly simple geometry of the first floor, both bodies are articulated through the rhythm of the columns. The construction material proposed for the upper body of the building is Cor-Ten steel, a material that naturally covers itself of protective rust, making it a maintenance free material. Three steel chimneys contrast with the rusty look of the building and are the exhaust ducts of the restaurants inside the Convenience Center.

New multi-purpose hall in Luzzara, Italy by 429 ARCHITETTURA

Sunday, November 24th, 2019

Article source: 429 ARCHITETTURA

The restoration of the bowling club of Luzzara, a small town in the lowland of Reggio Emilia along the banks of the river Po, is the opportunity to upgrade a place with a strong symbolic value. Place of leisure and meeting, the hall has been an Arci office and a bowling center for the last forty years; it has been dragged to the present day without being modified.

Now the new will of the Local Government and the little use have given impetus to its renovation.

Upgrading and renewal through the application of new ‘skins’ (textures), the first light and acoustic for the interiors, the second metallic in the front and the third artistic: a mural painting with the landscape and the typical flora and fauna of the river Po, that flows calm a few meters away from there.

Onyx House in Brisbane, Australia by Joe Adsett Architects

Thursday, November 14th, 2019

Article source: Joe Adsett Architects

Situated on a sloping site in the leafy inner-city suburb of Paddington in Brisbane, Onyx is grounded on a modest 404 metre square lot that is characteristic of the local area. Despite the moderately small sized parcel of land on which it sits, the dwelling feels much more generous when experienced from an internal perspective. The sloping nature of the site also posed a challenge throughout the design and build of the project.

Tomtebrygga in Oslo, Norway by LPO Architects

Tuesday, November 12th, 2019

Article source: LPO Architects

Situation, History And Project Facts

The urban development and transformation of Bjørvika, starting with the Snøhetta Opera, forms an entire new neighborhood in Oslo. The brownfield site along the former harbor basin south of the central station rail tracks, where the Akerselva river meets the fjord, is reclaimed – making the shorefront once again available to the public.

The B1 plot of the Bjørvika masterplan sits along the eponymous promontory Paulsenkaia, named after wholesaler H.A.H. Paulsen, and is part of a stretch of land that includes the new Munch museum at the outermost tip of land.

An international architectural competition for the museum was won by (now) estudio Herreros and included the adjacent plots B4 and B1. LPO arkitekter was in charge of the proceeding zoning plan.
