Sitting in the foothills of the Sierra de Gredos in Spain, Oropesa commands an extensive view encompassing snow-capped peaks and olive trees. Oropesa is known for its castle, built in 1402 and formerly the residence of the Toledo family of nobles. One of them built an arcade to link the castle with Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Church, where the houses are placed incrusted in the ancient walls.
The house is situated in an environmentally sensitive area with a fragile dune scape. The ocean resides within walking distance and becomes visually apparent on the second floor and roof deck. With the ocean comes the harsh salt air.

This double pre-school or kindergarten facility and a recently completed gym serve as extensions of the school grounds to the east.
Separated from the surrounding single-family homes, the pre-school building reflects the orientation of the existing school structures. The staggered construction produces an entrance area with plenty of sunlight and a shady and well-protected outside space at the back of the building. The main entrance is covered and slightly set back.
How do you create a home in 4.5m? It’s tricky, but a lot of fun.
A family of four had lived in this modest, ageing house for almost eight years. As the children neared their teenage years something had to be done. Abandoning their home and moving elsewhere was not an option as the family was an important part of a thriving community.
Woodland is a small residential community nestled among a grove of large trees in a neighborhood that is just minutes outside of downtown Austin, Texas. The development started with a simple program of four houses, but quickly became complex through the site’s general conditions and restrictions. Unusual property lines, a steep bluff, and an abundance of old-growth trees squeezed the buildable area for the project. This, in turn, presented privacy and view concerns given the close proximity of each house to the surrounding trees, as well as one other. Along with these issues, permitting violations from a previous owner had to be overcome.
