This is a private residence for a family of three built on a very particular landscape in the suburban Niigata, Japan. It is on a corner of peach garden in between a historical hinterland of farm villages along the Nakanokuchi River and a heavy traffic highway passing through the whole Niigata prefecture in front.
An existing non-descript structure, perched above the crest of the dune between the ocean and bay, was thoroughly transformed. We utilized clearly defined volumes, simple, durable, yet elegant materials and details instilling a strong connection between the indoors and out.
DITTEL | ARCHITEKTEN designed an exclusive showroom at Carloft in Berlin Kreuzberg. Visitors find an exciting interior including a bar with lounge for guests and a show area with an adjoining patio.
The brief was to create a 700 square foot extension to house an open plan kitchen / living / dining room to this lateral house in Highgate, North London.
The house is in a very secluded position, surrounded by greenery, completely hidden from view, the only clue as to what lies beyond is a simple discrete gate set in the fence.
Many of the requests to us for designing a house are accompanied with a prerequisite of ensuring a house for a nuclear family at an extremely subdivided lot, to whichwe cannot easily applythe manners of architecture having been accumulated for long time in Japan. We repeated trials and errors while designing as we think we are in the formative period for a new manner.

This small tall house is located in a civic center section, small stores stand in a line around it. This is a dwelling with shop. The black tube lead to the soba noodle restaurant behind the pilotis on the first floor. This site has a narrow frontage and long shape in the back.

A new function (a place for music) for an old (and silent) building (a former bus depot) represents an architectural+technological challenge and a poetic content at the same time.
A new building rises inside the old one, and includes all the structural and technological solutions required. The new building does not touch the old one, which remains visible and gets more value from this addition.
