The Policello Residence in Houston, Texas by Charles Todd Helton Architect, Inc.

Thursday, April 9th, 2020

Article source: Charles Todd Helton Architect, Inc.

A Mediterranean contemporary residence that I designed for clients building in Houston. We wanted to keep the interior light and open, and go with a more minimalist scheme. On the 2nd floor, we did an entire apartment setup, so someone can live there independently if needed. The main public spaces all open up to each other, making the interior feel even larger. The pool is covered with a large screened-in lanai. The homeowners are happy, so I am happy, and it looks great inside and out.

House on Rua Ceuta in Brazil by ARQLAB

Friday, April 3rd, 2020

Article source: ARQLAB

The proposal to renovate the small and old house at Rua de Ceuta was replaced by the desire to reorganize family life on a less fragmented way, without individualized rooms and conventional arrangement of main body plus a small home.

The ancient construction warm atmosphere was largely maintained by the open courtyard inside the central area. Towards it, the totality of the domestic environments now is turned, benefited by luminosity that takes volume and crosses the geometrical skin glass facade. This courtyard, even internal, let the house enjoy the outside life, in a spiral walkway that starts from the social entrance, runs through the void inside and outside and ends on the roof, also a family living area.

Joan & Edgar Booth Theatre and the College of Fine Arts Production Center in Boston, Massachusetts by Elkus Manfredi Architects

Thursday, March 19th, 2020

Article source: Elkus Manfredi Architects

This multifunctional studio theatre with production and support spaces provides Boston University’s internationally acclaimed School of Theatre with a 21st-century learning environment for collaboration and experimentation. Collocated on BU’s Charles River Campus with the rest of the College of Fine Arts for the first time in decades, the theatre creates a new era of engagement for the University community, the Town of Brookline, and area residents. With its dramatically reflective façade framed by a delicate concrete scrim, the 75,000-square-foot theatre complex delights and instructs, giving architectural form to Hamlet’s injunction to the players “to hold, as ‘twere, the mirror up to nature.”

A dramatic presence on Commonwealth Avenue, Boston University’s Booth Theatre provides a 21st-century learning environment for collaboration and experimentation with its multifunctional studio theatre and production center. Hosting the newly collocated theatre arts program, the new center is enveloped in a first-of-its-kind pre-cast concrete scrim that evokes the frame of a proscenium theatre, while the lobby’s mirror-like 47-foot glass curtainwall cants forward 14 degrees, reflecting the city scene, Image Courtesy © Robert Benson

Sunday, March 15th, 2020

Article source: David Coleman Architecture

Located on a rain-drenched site in the rugged, north-western foothills of the Cascade Mountains, this modest, sustainable building has a big presence in a big landscape. Surrounded by dramatic, mountain peaks, the site slopes to the east and overlooks a large woodlot. Our clients wanted a building that had presence in and subservience to the wild landscape. This duality became the thematic tag that informed the design.

The Compton in London, England by E8 Architecture

Friday, March 13th, 2020

Article source: E8 Architecture

Commissioned and built by luxury developer, Regal London, in partnership with Simon Bowden Architecture, this ten-storey residential building delivers 49 apartments in one of London’s most prestigious suburbs; St John’s Wood.

The surrounding area is characterized by mid 20th Century mansion blocks, the nicest of which are in the Art Deco style. Our design drew inspiration from the Art Deco form, the curved bays are one of the building’s signature features. Also, the imprint of a leaf motif is a modern interpretation of the Deco pattern with its precise geometry and clear lines.
