Article source: Foster + Partners Nestled in the rolling hills of Bordeaux, the new Le Dôme winery in Saint-Émilion has welcomed its first visitors. Designed and engineered by the practice, the low-lying building blends seamlessly with the UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Landscape of the region with a state-of-the-art facility for the internationally renowned wine, Le Dôme. The form of the building is rooted in a desire to create a structure that simultaneously looks both inwards and outwards, providing an efficient space for wine production, while engaging in dialogue with the surrounding landscape. Article source: Davide Macullo Architects Muttenz is a historic municipality on the outskirts of the city of Basel, which from an urban perspective looks like an extension of the city. The construction, used as a primary dwelling, is designed as a volume enclosed by a set of concrete sects. From a distance, the house appears to be an interpretation of traditional residential architecture and its forms from afar are familiar. Its pitched roof fits harmoniously with the overall impression of the quarter. This familiarity however changes as you approach closer. When you arrive in front of the house you don’t recognize the volume that you have seen from afar. Instead, you are faced with a composition of exposed concrete sects that regulates the relationship between the interior and exterior. The sects and the glass openings are arranged in such a way as to direct the views from the inside of the rooms to the outside, in selected directions. This gives preference to the most beautiful and wider views, while respecting the privacy of residents and neighbours.  Image Courtesy © Fabrice Fouillet

Article source: BXBstudio The Lesser Polish Eaves Cottage is a house which was inspired by the Polish wooden arcade architecture. Eaves houses located in the market square of Lanckorona are an interesting example of such architectural solutions. While designing the house, we followed the regulations stipulated in the Local Area and Development Plan, which only allowed for a single floor house with a gable attic. In spite of restrictive regulations, we managed to create an interesting structure of the building. We used the topography of a scenic plot of land creatively and we separated as many as five different levels, legally falling within the definition of a two-storey building. Located in Shirokane, Minato ward in Tokyo, it may be found at a corner of a four-way intersection on Gonohashidori a street which extends to the south of Furukawa River. While at a first glance the street may seem to have an old-fashioned touch to it, however, it is not as narrow as what the traditional Japanese streets may be seen as and both facades of the building may be seen from a far distance. Article source: ov – a Clients brief was to build a sports hall with facilities and a seating tribune next to the Elbe river. The proposal won 1st place in architectural competition. The plot is located at the north-east edge of the Kolín town, close to the tennis courts and an athletic stadium. The new BTR (build-to-rent) residential development is located in Leeds on the former site of the Yorkshire Post offices and printing works and forms part of the city’s new Wellington Place urban quarter. The new-build, 18-storey building, with extensive frontage looking directly out over the River Aire, features a stepped design from the 13th to the 17th floor, with parking at below-ground level. The 242-home scheme has been designed by architects The Harris Partnership, with 74’s remit covering the interior design of the 595 sq m ground floor residents’ amenity space – where social areas are combined with a reception area, residents lounge, co-working space, a fitness-on-demand wellness studio and a gym – as well as a 155 sq m ‘Sky Lounge’ on the building’s 11th floor, with private dining room and additional external terrace space. In response to the brief Open AD designed an activity-based workplace, which embodies the company culture and brand values. Bespoke furnishing brings the company logo to life without the need for further branding solutions. Seen from the street, a neon light feature attracts attention and announces the company name to passers-by. Employees have access to hot desks, lockers, meeting spaces, a kitchen and lounge. The office is easily transformed to host meetups, community events and foosball tournaments. Custom-designed elements like the stylised tool rack support a culture of creativity and innovation, in which employees can comfortably ideate. Incorporating work environments designed to nurture connectivity, creativity and entrepreneurship, the new headquarters also includes the group’s herbal medicine research facilities and safety assessment labs as well as a learning centre for conferences and exhibitions. The 185,643 sq. m Infinitus Plaza defines a gateway to the new Baiyun Central Business District. Built on the site of the decommissioned Baiyun Airport, the new district links Guangzhou’s city centre with Feixiang Gongyuan Park and the new communities within the former airport’s redevelopment. Located adjacent to Feixiang Park station on Line 2 of the Guangzhou Metro, Infinitus Plaza straddles the metro’s sub-surface tunnel, dividing the headquarters into two buildings that interconnect at multiple levels.
