Article source: ZED Lab The boys’ hostel building at the St. Andrews Institute of Technology and Management by ZED Lab is a meticulously designed, well-engineered residential complex that obtains its character from the basic building block – the brick. The building maintains a strong horizontal emphasis and utilizes a restrained material palette consisting of fair-faced concrete exposed in the robust supporting structure in the façade. The design of the hostel block creates a sense of community and reflects the contemporary nature of the university buildings. It houses a fluid sequence of socially functional and environmentally sustainable spaces.

Article source: Angel Martin Interiors Owing to Angel Martin’s complete renovation, this forty-year-old home is now a breath of fresh air and oozes charm and warmth. Stone, oak and other rugged materials are seamlessly combined with modern touches, such as angular lines and sleek fixtures, for a fresh and inviting effect. A welcoming and distinctly Mediterranean vibe is attained through the use of earthy tones, like beige, sage and ecru. A feeling of spaciousness and light was achieved by connecting the kitchen with the dining room and by creating more space in the stairway and living room. Bespoke furniture, as well as pieces by acclaimed designers, accentuate the villa’s perfect balance between rustic chic and contemporary minimalism.

A 20m-long table along the central axis of the hall provides structure for the various functions: during the day, the main focus is on ticket sales, service and information; as the evening closes in, the space transforms like a stage and becomes a meeting spot where the local culture and music scene can socialise. Whether day or night, it is a welcoming place for all visitors.

House in Famalicão in Vila Nova de Famalicão, Portugal by Pedro Lima da Costa, ArquitecturaFebruary 27th, 2021 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: Pedro Lima da Costa, Arquitectura “In 2018, the client challenged us to design his future house with 3 bedrooms, 1 office, 1 living room and 1 kitchen connected to the dining room, in a 660m2 plot located in Requião, Vila Nova de Famalicão, Portugal. The terrain is a relatively narrow plot, but with some depth. Having the street to the west and a pine forest to the east, it seemed very clear to us that the implantation of the house would have to be in the longitudinal direction of the plot, safeguarding the privacy of the spaces of greater use and conviviality overlooking the garden. In order to guarantee the best use of the land and solar orientation, the house leaned against the north limit of the plot, thus releasing the largest possible garden and pool area to the south.
Family House With Atrium in Podluží, Czech Republic by SENAA architektiFebruary 27th, 2021 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: SENAA architekti The investors bought a relatively small sloping lot with a view to Palava hills. The assignment for the architects was quite simple: “A family house if you are able to fit anything on this lot.” The house is part of a newly-built street on the edge of a small Moravian village. The new development doesn’t take into account the traditional row design of local villages. Houses here are not attached, without any unifying feature; they mutually don’t respect roof ridge or roof pitch. The challenge was to design contemporary living in a village neighborhood consisting primarily of “catalogue” houses.
