Article source: Floisand Studio Architects Exposition Heights is a complete transformation of a 1,800-square-foot Seattle split-level into a two-story modern gable home. Despite a tight budget, the comprehensive remodel almost doubles the square footage of the original 1960s home, accommodates urban density challenges, and demonstrates how older homes can be adapted to meet the changing needs of their owners.

Article source: Prashant Parmar Architect | Shayona Consultant Large plots are not essential for lavish homes, but thoughtful space planning can break the limitations of small plots making it breathable, inviting adequate natural light and ventilation. Cradled in the posh residential area of Ahmedabad, Paldi, this Narrow House is a unique example of balancing the yin and the yang of the architecture as well as interiors incorporating nature within the build forms.

Article source: Mário Alves architeture Inserted in a subdivision located in Quinta da Portela, Coimbra, the land is situated in the middle of the hill. Developing a house in this location becomes a challenge due to the natural profile that the land develops. As such, the project idea is not to land a volume that becomes a dwelling, but to design a volume that conveys the idea that it was carved in the “site” (thus creating the feeling of union with the place) at the same time as it provokes the sensation that it is the volume that holds the hill itself.

Article source: Aurora Architects + Furo The project consists of a set of residential buildings with about 3300 m2 located in Cascais. The studios Aurora Arquitectos and FURO sign the architecture. The site and the great height difference between the street fronts were the generating principle to create four volumes of semi-detached houses. Each of the eight houses is organized into three levels, with the middle level being the social floor. Conceptually, this floor is an open plan divided by functional volumes that house the kitchen, a bathroom, or a closet. The façade is completely glazed. The fluidity of the plan and the transparency of the façade are combined to give the perception of continuity between the interior floor and the landscaped exterior surface that covers the garage and is at the same level as this floor.

Article source: Ludwig Godefroy Architecture The origin of the concept of Alferez house comes from the idea of a cabin in the wood and its romantic felling of a protective shelter in the middle of the forest. I wanted the house to look like a cube which would have crashed on the floor, among the trees.

Article source: Ezequiel Farca The design of GDL 3 House located in Zapopan, Mexico, became a challenge due to the many restriction zones into the plot which led us to consider a house with a narrow front, developing the architectural program in a longitudinal direction from the front side to the rear side of the plot. At the same time, we took advantage of the restrictions zones to allow natural lighting and ventilation into the rooms. The program composed by three floors and one underground garage place the bedrooms and bathrooms in the intermediate floor, and the social areas in the lower and upper floors. The materials palette was chosen to create sober, elegant, and contemporary environments.

Article source: Dhulia Architecture Design The extension block at Dr Dhaval Rajnikant Mehta primary school is a depiction of the age-old Indian tradition of gaining knowledge under a tree located at the centre of the village. The village of Shapar is an industrial settlement with most of its population being daily wage factory workers from different Indian states. The children often quit education due to the nature of the parent’s jobs and wind up looking after their younger siblings and providing them meals. However, this school has students way more than the infrastructure they had because of good education and free midday meals. This encouraged the parents to send students to school and take interest in their educational well-being.
